Mayo V Tyrone All-Ireland Football Final

Anybody's game. You could make the case for both teams and be on point. Both teams upset the odds. Both teams need to be smart. No dumb fouls that get guys sent off. Take your points. I think the team that plays smarter and more efficient with the ball will win. I'll take Mayo by a point. 20 to 1-16 Mayo.

Funny that's another thing that will come into it, bloody water breaks, they break a teams momentum , they can save or ruin a team. Great to be back in a final, 2 more sleeps.

It's all very quite on the western front, the calm before the storm, going to be lively on this thread on Saturday night!!
Got my wee bet on Mayo to put the blink on them as well as the oul curse lol. Going to be a cracker I think, can't wait.

Tyrone and the officials, need to be very aware of some of the Mayo antics. O'Shea for a big lump doesn't half hit the deck very easy when anyone goes near him. He draws other players into his antics a lot.

As a Tyrone man I would love to see our 4th All Ireland. If we dont I will still celebrate as this Mayo team deserves success. Both teams made major changes this year and didnt believe the RTE (the dubs tv) rubbish. The joy that each of the finalists will bring by winning will be exhilarating for their supporters as the road has been tough and nobody gave them a chance. I just hope Dublin Joe keeps its fair and may the best team win.

Indeed the amount of soft frees that guy gets is an overlooked blight on the game.
Its time somebody was brave enough to highlight this issue!

Make no mistake, from what I'm hearing on the ground from up there, Tyrone are absolutely primed for this. The mind games and psychology will start before the parade even starts - Tyrone are good at this stuff! Mayo will have to be on fire to take them down. Some of us bleed Maroon down in Galway but hoping our neighbours can finally get over the line. I think they can deliver but they'll need to be more than ready for the high tempo onslaught that Tyrone will bring. Mayo's flyers in the backs to counter this. Mayo for Sam.

It will be a tight affair up to the last 15 minutes & Tyrone will then pull away to win by 4. I would like to see Mayo win but I can't see it happening - there is a conviction about this Tyrone team this year. However they will need to mind their discipline as if they lose a man or 2 to red /black cards, it could be Mayos day after all. But with 15 v 15, Tyrone.

Really looking forward to this game, its a real 50/50 game, both teams will be confident they can beat each other.

Both play similar styles, a tough physical press for the turnover, Mayo press higher than Tyrone do, and then both love the hard running game. Both look to win frees, Cillian huge loss here but O Donoghue has so far done well on frees, Hennelly scored 3 against Dublin but he is inconsistent and could miss all kicks another day, his kicking style doesnt leave much room for error as he kicks it straight and doesn't draw it in. McCurry is prone to missing a few and I would say Morgan is the same as Hennelly both being inconsistent. Conversion rate of frees will be huge for both teams.

Be interesting to see if either teams will try something different, now I think both managers are happy that there ususal game plans are good enough, but something like in 2016 game, Mayo surprisingly started Alan Dillon and he played as a link man inbetween half forward and full forward lines and it caused Tyrone trouble.

Against Galway and Dublin, Mayo played defensively in first half in both games, and it was a poor defensive display, against Galway they played a half arsed sweeper and didnt work and against Dublin they just did not want to concede a goal and ended up conceding 10 points in a half which is poor. So they need to sort that out as Tyrones running game will cut them open if they arent setup correctly.

I am confident of a Mayo win as I think Tyrone wont play as well as they did against Kerry, and even at that Kerry played badly and were 4 up and looked like winners until the goal at the end. If the Monaghan game went on for another few mins I think they would have caught Tyrone and Donegal beat themselves. Tyrone really had the siege mentality going for the Kerry game and cant see how they can create that again, they will to a point but not near the same level.

I think it is fair to say Tyrone are favourites based upon their semi final performance but can Tyrone repeat that performance? The lead up to the semi-final was perfect for Tyrone in that they had all these covid issues and there was no pressure on them and to a certain degree they had nothing to lose as they were barely able to field a team. This match, it is the complete opposite. There is none of that. I know people are saying it is 50/50 but if both teams were to perform as they did in the semi final the Tyrone would be the clear winners. I think for Mayo to win, they have to prevent Tyrone getting goals like they did against Kerry. I don't see either team having the scoring power to peg back 3 pointers; were one or the other to get goals. It is too simplistic to say that the team that gets the goals will win as there are other variables involved but certainly if one or other team were to get 2 or more goals, they would be well on their way to victory.

Do you mind me asking how you figure Tyrone are favourites based on their semi performance, but Mayo are not based on theirs? Would have thought beating the 6 time reigning champions was the more eye catching semi... Most odds I've seen have Mayo as slight favourites

The bookies have Mayo as odds on favs that's probably correct, beaten in last years final and after beating the 6 time All Ireland Champions in the semi final they have to be strong favs.
Tyrone are a surprise to many having reached this final, you could say Kerry were caught napping in the semi final and thought they could coast to the final on the backs of their great forward line of the Clifford's etc. The Kerry management was inadequate and has been for a while.
Tyrone are up against it here and McQuillan won't do them any favours either. This is Mayo's best chance to end the famine. Have they the bottle to get the job done though? time will tell. not long to wait now.
