Again I think people reading too much into the retirements and that as Dublin still so strong. I mean what was Dublin's best team.? Was in 4 in a row? 5? 6?.i was just looking at the team that beat Kerry in the 19 replay and 12 of that team will. be playing if they make all ireland final. On last year's team that won 6 in a row. 14 of the team available this year and that does nt include Brian Howard or Costello who were subs. The only one missing is Cluxton. Now he is big loss no doubt but when one looks at the big picture Dublin have brought in players all the time so still very strong. It's like Kilkenny they had alot of retirements around 10 11 but still had loads of talent and won a few more all Irelands.

Mick when you take Jack , Mannion and Connolly out of the panel not to mention Cluxton and the others , there is no doubting that Dublin are not as strong as before. That will become evident soon enough.

Of course they not as strong but Connolly had missed a couple of years and none of those 3 you named started last years final. Mannion was a sub. Dublin were weaker last year but they won the all ireland. My point is Dubs still very strong.

The time has passed Mick when you can look at a 15 and make a judgement. It's at least a 25 man game these days and 20 on the day. It's not just retirements it's lads stepping away, it's injuries and retirements. Count the All Ireland medals gone out of the squad in the last 12 months - it's staggering. Actually thinking of it we've lost 3 former footballers of the year in the last year in Jack, the living legend and Mick McCauley. We're back to building and the drawing board unfortunately, time to get the wellies on and continue to develop the youth in the county on the short winter nights, in time that will bring us back, we've huge potential in this county when we harness it and develop it properly. We'l look to youth at grassroots, it's our way. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4516 - 14/07/2021 21:33:52 2359942 Link 3 |
Strong yes but by no means will it be a case of a foregone conclusion as some are stating. Players of that calibre drive others to be better and when they're not involved the dynamic within a squad changes. Same as with the Kilkenny squad. When the top not players with the experience go it's a different prospect and new arrivals are in a different environment. Ok, there are still some greats there but the pool is definitely diluted and no where near as formidable. Yes, we won last year but it was somewhat bizarre and you can see that by the way the provinces played out. It's a bit more settled this year and my feeling is we are there for the taking.

Well I'm afraid age caught up with MDMA but Jack is too young to go and a loss for the neutrals too may I add. Time catches up with everyone I'm afraid. I do agree that the bench is the difference alright. Dubs first 15 probably still best in the country but bench not as strong anymore and yes in every big game especially tight ones a team needs 5 subs as strong as the guys coming off.

Well Dubh linn this years format same as last year except weather better due to time of year. Look I agree Dubs not as strong but still good enough. Dublin first 15 probably still best in country but as Username mentioned it's all about the 26 and that might be a problem.

"We'l look to youth at grassroots, it's our way" As opposed to every other county in GAA that buy players in? You must be new to GAA. Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1352 - 15/07/2021 11:36:53 2360053 Link 15 |
You'd have to take his comment as very much tongue-in-cheeck. The buying in of country players by the Dublin superclubs is what pushes the standard within the county up and has contributed greatly to their recent dominance. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5246 - 15/07/2021 11:48:15 2360059 Link 16 |
You could give the 100 euro to paddy power to make them richer but I suppose it'll be spent more wisely in Kingdomboys hands.

A broken clock is right twice a day and all that. . But you're looking to be right twice a century at this rate! cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5246 - 15/07/2021 12:37:35 2360089 Link 23 |
That's my point. It is all about the panel that's the only way you'll win anything nowadays. That's what made us so strong. The timing of the championship last year was unique and certainly threw up some surprises but we are playing in more traditional seasons this year so Kerry and Tyrone etc will not be eliminated as was last year. There is plenty of Meath men who would say the County neglected their underage structures in recent decades and hence a big contributor to Meaths regression in the last 10 years. One of us must be new to this alright. ;)

No offence to anyone but this is Meath v Dublin, unfortunately from a Meath perspective Dublin will face Kerry at some stage. But I'd like if we could keep it to our likely last day out. Again no offence to any posters. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 16/07/2021 09:47:26 2360305 Link 1 |
