True, a strong bench makes a huge difference in the modern game, esp in Croke Park. But it's never down to one factor. Another reason why teams have failed to beat Dublin in recent years is that they didn't take their chances when on top and blew some easy ones, made wrong options or gave away possession easily. Some of that may have been tiredness at the end of the game but it has happened early in games or at important stages in the game. To beat any top county, in hurling or football it must be done on the scoreboard when the chances are there to be taken. That's how the top teams do it. Sounds simple but it takes skill to make it look simple.

I see posters predicting a Meath win, its entirely plausible but I think Galway will come through the test. suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1669 - 25/02/2020 20:38:21 2270179 Link 1 |
In fairness, I think everyone would be surprised if Mayo or Tyrone beat either of those opponents.

I wouldn't be, happened last year and both were away from home.

100% correct. Premeditated, well aware of what he was doing and why, then feign injury to get away with it. Heaven help us all if a Tyrone player did the same. It's not the refs that need coaching!!!! We need to re evaluate the rolls of umpires and linesmen/women. There's talk of introducing a second ref. We already have 7 officials for every game. (more than enough if they all had a designated role) Surely an umpire can take charge of timekeeping??? at least for added time when most of the theatrics are happening and the ref has enough going on. Why on earth don't we coach officiating teams and not just the refs??? StopTheLights (Galway) - Posts: 343 - 26/02/2020 08:31:03 2270237 Link 0 |
Mayo are nothing if not consistent, I'll give you that. Mayo and Dublin are the two teams who give us exactly what we expect year in year out. Not the type of consistency I'd be drawing attention to. StopTheLights (Galway) - Posts: 343 - 26/02/2020 11:13:50 2270266 Link 0 |
galway will beat meath by 6-10 galwayfan99 (Galway) - Posts: 22 - 26/02/2020 12:21:39 2270288 Link 3 |
Well Dublin's consistency is that of winning and winning in style, playing the game the right way. Mayo have a loosing final streak that is not pretty but more importantly a consistency of getting back up and keeping at it...never throwing in the towel. So your comment that it's a consistency you would not be drawing attention to is wrong. You haven't a clue. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11230 - 26/02/2020 14:31:15 2270316 Link 14 |
Agree. Meath on the road to no town.

Galway at a canter. 10 points or greater.

Mayo could escape the drop to division two again this year , not on the playing field , they are doomed there ,but this Corona Virus will result in the League being abandoned this year and League left as last year for 2021. culmore (None) - Posts: 1398 - 26/02/2020 18:46:47 2270359 Link 1 |
It's just some of us are more equal than others little piggy. Mayo and Meath won't be winning. You are entitled to be wrong though. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 26/02/2020 19:04:10 2270364 Link 0 |
I wouldn't be overly shocked as we have a terrible record in Navan.

Very astute of you to pick up on the different versions of consistency! They give out medals for winning All Irelands. Last time I checked there are no awards for getting back up and keeping at it! Isn't that what every team does every year? Again this year, Dublin and Mayo will do exactly what everyone expects them to do. Keep up the good work!!!!!
