Replying To ORIELMAN85:  "Well your great Antrim GAA have definitely turned Casement into a place only fit for sheep. Get real, the Euros are not coming, the concerts are not coming, most Andersontown residents are happy and Clones is and shall remain the centre of Ulster GAA. On top of that it is the spiritual heart of Ulster Finals."
Agree Clones is a magic place for Ulster finals. But like Semple Stadium it needs upgrading, and I'm not sure it's central enough for Ulster Council to put in the necessary money when other forms of revenue might not be forthcoming.

He likely wouldn't know much about Ulster finals being from Antrim but the atmosphere in Clones in Ulster final day is fantastic, the buzz in the packed town then the walk up the hill, you'd never get that in a place like Belfast.
I hope they put some serious investment into Clones now.
I'd also like to see Casement redeveloped for Antrim GAA but the big plans for a concert/tan ball venue etc are gone now and good riddance.

I've been to several Ulster finals in Clones, trust me it's nothing compared to Thurles, Cork or Limerick for a Munster hurling final. Good that they can move the final around down there without listening to a bunch of divas crying about 'spiritual home' etc while obviously knowing little of the history of the Ulster final venue in the first place, let alone the great game of hurling.

It would fit you better to worry about the state of the GAA in your own county and ground than waffling here about Thurles Cork and Limerick in all fairness, The state Casement is in now is a disgrace to the man it's named after.

All that hurling talk getting a bit too alien for you, super chuck? A disgrace is right, but you backed the decisions to keep it a disgrace didn't you.

All credit to Ballycastle for their excellent hosting of today's senior hurling final in what were horrendous conditions. The surface was excellent and it is to both teams credit they served up an exciting and sporting contest. Those famous Ruairi Ogs were deserved winners but is is a shame that many players on view today have not played in their own County ground

Antrim GAA needs a home ground.

How much money have the Antrim GAA promised to the Casement Park redevelopement, or is it a case that they want Governments and the wider GAA family to provide them with a spanking new facility.

Did Monaghan pay for the slight upgrade in Clones?

**** all from what I can see... it would strongly appear that their contribution is what the GAA is providing which is fairly light as well let's be honest about it.

I see the British Government have announced that they are contributing £50mil to the project bringing the current total to £170.5m (£62.5m from Stormont, GAA £15m, & the Irish government c£43m). The GAA have indicated that they may increase their contribution according to the BBC. If asked, the Irish Government should be well able to match the British Government funding and the gaels of Antrim should be well able to foot up another £5-10m as the gaels of many counties have done across the country for their own developments. Time to get on now and build the stadium.

The pitch itself is owned by Clones but the stands etc are owned by the Ulster Council.

Bit of a white elephant, a 34,000 capacity stadium when the province is already served with a stadium of that size for big games seems a bit silly. And how often will this stadium be anyway halfway near full? Antrim won't fill it. And it costing nearly a quarter billion euro is mind boggling.

Even allowing for inflation the park in Cork cost half that or more and has 10,000 more capacity than this stadium plans to have.

Again you slabbering , me no slabbering. Can't wait for Ulster finals in a new ground where you don't get clothes ripped on seats.

If you're going to build a stadium, build a modest one. leave the Ulster Finals in Clones. Its more central.
The figures mentioned for Belfast are outrageous and a waste of good money.

I'd imagine they'll be renting it out for concerts and all sorts, the GAA are good at getting money in.
What obligation is on the British Gov anyway to fund a GAA stadium? honest question.

Fantastic!

£250,000,000 to build a stadium that will be empty almost all year round, will cause huge logistical problems for the majority of gaels in Ulster and has almost zero support from local residents.
