Galway have been crowned Leinster minor hurling champions following a dramatic 3-20 to 3-19 extra-time victory over Kilkenny in last night's final at a wet and windy Laois Hire O'Moore Park.

The young Tribesmen hit an unanswered 2-6 in the final quarter of normal time before edging a titanic tussle after an additional 20 minutes were played. It was Galway's second time to lift the title since joining Leinster in 2023.

A Joe Dowling goal helped the Cats to a 1-10 to 0-6 half-time lead before Galway's Cillian Power netted with his first touch straight after the restart.

Quickfire goals from Ruairí Power and Brion Walsh had Kilkenny 12 points in front midway through the second half, but the Westerners producing a storming finish in which Tadhg Mac Cártaigh and Anthony Poniard raised green flags before Michael Coen showed nerves of steel to slot over an equalising free in injury-time.

The sides were still level at the end of the first period of extra-time before two points from substitute Daithí Dillon eventually got Galway over the line.
