Tooreen (Mayo) and Upperchurch-Drombane (Tipperary) will square off in the All-Ireland club intermediate hurling championship final at Croke Park next month after both teams came through their respective semi-finals this afternoon.

Connacht champions Tooreen proved too strong for Tyrone’s Eire Og Carrickmore at Kingspan Breffni where they emerged victorious on a 1-28 to 1-17 scoreline to reach their second All-Ireland decider in three years.

The first-half in Cavan Town had saw Carrickmore edging their fancied opponents, leading by 0-12 to 0-10 at the interval thanks to the scores of the scores of marksman Aidan Kelly.

The men from the west would be level within three minutes of the restart however, and hit the front via Liam Lavin before stretching their advantage to five with the help of scores from Fergal Boland and Eoin Delaney.

Boland’s goal had them eight to the good with 10 minutes remaining and, even with Dermy Begley pulling back a late goal for the Ulster champions, Tooreen would storm to a comprehensive 11-point victory in the end.

In Portlaoise, Upperchurch-Drombane were made to battle all the way by Kilkenny’s Danesfort towards a 1-13 to 0-14 and Croker date in January when they’ll look to cap off their incredible season with All-Ireland silverware.

The Tipp side got the perfect start through Pat Ryan’s goal four minutes in and would go on to increase their advantage to five via the scores of Luke Shanahan (free) and Colm Ryan.

Danesfort trimmed their deficit down to 1-7 to 0-7 come half-time and stayed right with their Premier counterparts through the second-half, levelling with five minutes to go before the scores of Shanahan (two frees) and Pat Ryan eventually got Upperchurch-Drombane over the line.
