Rory O’Connor says St Martin’s don’t intend resting on their laurels after landing their maiden Leinster club SHC title last Saturday.

O’Connor top-scored with 0-11, but substitute Ben Stafford was the hero after his last-gasp point handed the Wexford champions a dramatic victory over favourites Ballyhale Shamrocks at Croke Park. St Martin’s can now look forward to an All-Ireland semi-final meeting with Ballygunner on the weekend after next, but before then, Rory will be best man at his brother and fellow St Martin’s star Jack’s wedding to Kilkenny camogie star Grace Walsh next weekend.

“I was watching Ballygunner in the Munster final on the telly and they’re an impressive team,” he told reporters.

“I said the very same about Ballyhale, obviously they’re teams that have to be massively respected. Ballygunner have done massive things in provincial championships and All-Ireland championships.

“But we’re definitely going to throw the kitchen sink at it.

“I never thought the day would come, to be honest, for our club. Then just in the last two years, it’s come together. We’ve a sprinkle of young whippets in the backs, real fast lads. I think it’s a coming of age for our team.”
