Jordan Flynn was full of praise for his Crossmolina midfield partner Kobe McDonald after the wonderkid produced another eye-catching display in the Mayo SFC.
The 17-year-old son of Ciaran McDonald scored 1-5 as the reigning All-Ireland intermediate club champions romped to a 1-24 to 0-12 quarter-final victory over Belmullet. In many other counties, Kobe wouldn’t be eligible to play adult football yet which makes his performance all the more noteworthy.
"The great thing about being so good when you're so young is everyone will talk about you when you're good, but if he has a bad day then people are very quick to jump on you,” Mayo senior star Flynn said of the teenage sensation in an interview with TG4.
“So what I'd be telling him, and he knows this, is just enjoy his football, and that's what he's doing. You miss things, you know, you're going to miss, you're not going to score every day.
“He's just so free-flowing, he's just care-free, and he's just enjoying his football. You can see when he's playing, he's not worried if he misses.
“He's 17 years of age, and I won't curse on telly, but he doesn't care, like he'll just get the ball again and he'll see what happens. He lost a few balls here, but yet the last one, he finished it."
Next up for Deel Rangers is a semi-final meeting with Lee Keegan’s Westport.
