Kerry’s All-Ireland senior football championship winning side from 2000 are set to be honoured at Croke Park this afternoon.
This year’s silver jubilee team were led by the late, great Paidí Ó Sé as he patrolled the sidelines at headquarters on October 7, 2000 when the Kingdom defeated Galway by 0-17 to 1-10 in a replay to claim the Sam Maguire Cup.
Seamus Moynihan captained the Munster champions that day and the millennium year marked the last straight knock-out football championship until the Covid-19 impacted competition of 2020.
This afternoon will see Kerry’s heroes from that day honoured on the hallowed turf prior to the throw-in of the All-Ireland final showdown between Jim McGuinness’s Donegal and Jack O’Connor’s Kerry, with Moynihan having the honour of carrying the coveted Sam Maguire Cup out on to the pitch.
