Cork hurlers are breathing a sigh of relief after a scan revealed that the knee injury sustained by Brian Hayes against Galway last Saturday night isn’t serious.
There were initial fears that Hayes ruptured his ACL in the closing stages of the Rebels’ impressive win at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh, but those fears have been all been allayed by manager Pat Ryan who is, however, planning for Sunday week’s Allianz League Division 1A final against Tipperary without the talented St Finbarr’s attacker.
“We haven't got a full report on it yet, but it's more kind of bone-bruising, two bones knocking off each other,” Ryan told The Echo.
“We're not too sure yet of the timeline, but it's not season-ending anyway. I would say that it’s touch-and-go for the start of the championship but he’d definitely be back for the second set of two games, which are in the middle of May.”
