Fourteen-man Burt were crowned Donegal senior hurling champions for the first time since 2018 and 40th time in total following a surprise 3-16 to 1-18 victory over holders Setanta in yesterday’s final at O’Donnell Park, Letterkenny.

The Inishowen outfit threw down the gauntlet to Setanta by racing into a 0-7 to 0-2 lead inside the first quarter before the reigning county senior and Ulster intermediate champions. Kevin Curran (Burt) and Gerry Gilmore (Setanta) then exchanged goals before Liam McKinney – who top-scored with 1-11 – grabbed another to send the winners into the break with a 2-9 to 1-8 lead.

Setanta were reduced to 14 players in the 40th minute when Caolan McDermott picked up a second yellow card, but they dug deep and sealed victory with a third goal from Dara Grant.
