Mike Solan is set to be appointed as the new Longford senior football team manager.

The former All-Ireland U21 winning manager will succeed Paddy Christie after being recommended to the Longford GAA Management Committee. The Ballaghaderreen man will be appointed for a three-year term.

Currently in charge of Sligo giants Tourlestrane, Solan led his native Mayo to All-Ireland U21 glory in 2016 and also to a Connacht U20 title in 2018. Furthermore, he was assistant to Andy Moran during his first year in charge of Leitrim.

"Following the conclusion of interviews, the selection committee put in place to find the next Longford Senior Football manager made its recommendation to the Longford GAA Management Committee this evening," a Longford GAA statement read.

"The Management Committee will, at the next County Board meeting, be recommending to Club Delegates that Mike Solan (Mayo) be appointed as the next Longford Senior Football manager for a three-year term."
