A first half scoring blitz propelled St Mullins to a 2-25 to 3-16 victory over 14-man Mount Leinster Rangers in the Carlow SHC final replay at Netwatch Cullen Park.

Having staged a late rally to force a replay seven days earlier, St Mullins made no mistake at the second time of asking to unseat the champions who played most of the game with 14 men after Dean Tobin received a straight red card in the seventh minute. County star Marty Kavanagh scored 1-10 for the winners who never looked back after Jason O’Neill grabbed their first goal in the 19th minute.

Kavanagh raised a second green flag moments later to help the green and whites to an unassailable 2-17 to 0-10 half-time lead.

To their credit, Rangers didn’t go down without a fight as two second half goals from Chris Nolan and another from Kevin McDonald brought them back into it. But they left themselves with too much to do as St Mullins were crowned champions for a 29th time.
