Waterford legend Dan Shanahan is still going strong for his beloved Lismore at the age of 47.

In his 32nd consecutive season playing adult club hurling, the former Hurler of the Year came off the bench to help Lismore to a 0-22 to 0-10 Waterford SHC relegation semi-final victory over Tallow at Fraher Field on Friday evening. It was his first senior appearance of the year after lining out for the black and ambers’ junior ‘B’ side up until then. Shanahan was recently appointed coach in new Waterford manager Peter Queally’s backroom team.

Dan’s younger brother Maurice accounted for 0-13, 0-9 from frees, of the Lismore tally against a Tallow side who lost top scorer Tommy Ryan to a straight red card.

Fourmilewater also secured their senior status yesterday when Ciaran Walsh's last-gasp goal handed them a 2-18 to 2-16 victory over Clonea.

It means that the SHC relegation final will be contested by Tallow and Clonea.
