Westmeath are on the lookout for a new senior football manager following Dessie Dolan’s decision to step down from his post.
Having served as a selector under Jack Cooney in 2022, Dolan steered the Lake County’s ship for the past two seasons and yesterday saw his reign come to a surprise end.
This past spring saw the 2004 All-Star winner steer the team to promotion to Division 2 of the Allianz League ahead of a decent run in the All-Ireland SFC, which would eventually end after a 2-7 to 0-9 defeat at the hands of Derry on June 15th.
"I will not be seeking reappointment for the season 2024/2025 with Westmeath Senior Footballers," Dolan said in a statement.
"I have completed three years- one as a selector and two years as Senior Football Manager. Being a part of the Tailteann cup success and gaining promotion to Division 2 this year are two significant occasions for our footballers, which I was proud to be a part of. We as a management team worked extremely hard to maintain the highest of standards for our footballers and I believe our performances in the All Ireland series give a lot of optimism for the quality of players within the county.
