Luke Loughlin is expected to make a full recovery after collapsing while playing for Clonkill in the Westmeath SHC last Sunday.

There were worrying scenes when the Westmeath football star was treated on the TEG Cusack Park pitch during the second half of the clash with Castletown-Geoghegan. He collapsed not long after being treated for a blood injury sustained following a clumsy tackle, for which opponent Shane Clavin was red-carded by four-time All-Ireland SHC final referee Barry Kelly.

After about a 45-minute delay, the dual star was taken to the Regional Hospital in Mullingar where a CT scan thankfully came back clear. Loughlin had earlier scored a goal, but six points from Liam Varley and five each from David O'Reilly and the returning Niall O'Brien helped Castletown-Geoghegan to a 0-27 to 3-11 victory.
