Pat Ryan says Cork will ‘lick their wounds’ and ‘try to regroup’ after their heartbreaking All-Ireland SHC final defeat to Clare.

The Cork manager made no attempt to hide his disappointment after his side came up agonisingly short in an extra-time thriller.

“Obviously, fellas came up to win today and we didn’t get over the line. All credit to Clare, they performed fantastically and probably just about deserved their victory,” he told the assembled media at Croke Park.

While having no complaints, Ryan was left to rue missed goal chances.

“We probably didn't take enough goal chances that we created; we had probably another four or five goal chances except for the one we did take. We needed to take them," he said.

“From our point of view, our job is to represent our county, represent the jersey, represent the people who come here paying hard money to come up to Dublin, and I think the lads did that. The lads can be very proud of how they performed but at the same time, look, we came up here to win. We will lick our wounds.

“Clare will celebrate, they’ll have a great couple of days, we will have a sad couple of days, the players will go back to their clubs. We will try to regroup and see where that takes us.”
