Clare will face Kilkenny in the All-Ireland senior hurling championship semi-finals in two weeks’ time after handing Wexford a 2-28 to 1-19 defeat at FBD Semple Stadium.

Second-half goals from Shane O’Donnell, who was in sizzling form throughout, and Ian Galvin helped the Banner men ease to a 12-point victory as they now look forward to a third consecutive semi-final date with the Cats in the race for the Liam MacCarthy Cup.

Brian Lohan’s side looked to be cruising early on in this one, running up a 0-12 to 0-5 lead by the 23rd minutes before Wexford clawed their deficit back to four and then won a penalty which Lee Chin converted on the half-hour mark.

Conor Foley levelled a minute later but the Slaneysiders would suffer a huge blow before half-time that saw Rory O’Connor sent off on a second yellow card before going in trailing by 0-15 to 1-10.

The Munster side moved through the gears in the second-half and another hammer blow would arrive for their opponents when O’Donnell raced through to lash in his superb goal in the 43rd minute.

Ten minutes later, substitute Galvin would settle the issue for Clare as they now look to topple Kilkenny for an All-Ireland final berth, with Limerick and Cork set to battle it out in the other last four clash after the Rebels’ five-point win over Dublin at the same venue earlier this afternoon.
