The Kerry SHC is already up-and-running, a good four weeks before most club championships are due to start.

Last weekend saw a full round of first rounds games take place, with former county star Shane Nolan posting 0-14 for Crotta O’Neills as they began their title defence with a 1-19 to 0-13 victory over Causeway.

Elsewhere, Ballyheigue scored six unanswered points down the home straight to defeat Kilmoyley 0-16 to 1-13, Ballyduff edged out St Brendan’s 1-15 to 0-16, while Lixnaw were 0-16 to 0-14 winners over newcomers Tralee Parnells. Similar to this year’s Offaly SFC, the Kerry SHC format has proven to be hugely controversial as no team can get knocked out in the group stages.
