Pat Spillane has claimed he was among the lowest-paid earners during his time as a pundit with RTÉ.
The Kerry legend worked with the crisis-hit national broadcaster for 30 years before retiring from The Sunday Game in 2022.
Writing in the Sunday World after RTÉ published its list of top earners for 2022 last week, Spillane stated: “I can assure everybody that being a panellist on The Sunday Game was not a well-paid gig. When I left, my fee was in the bottom ten per cent and possibly closer to the bottom five per cent.
"That was how things worked in RTÉ: the rich got richer, and the poor stayed poor. Although I had some great times there and worked with some wonderful people, it was an odd place.
"Entering the Montrose campus was a bit like visiting a parallel universe. I met a lot of people there who seemed cocooned from reality and full of their own importance.
"Departments operated in silos. Light touch regulation was the order of the day, with little oversight."Tweet
