There was heartbreak for David Clifford in the Kerry IFC final when he missed a late free to earn Fossa another bite at the cherry against Milltown-Castlemaine.
Crowned Footballer of the Year for the second successive year on Friday night, it was cruel luck on Clifford who certainly didn’t deserve to finish on the losing side after shooting 0-12 in another sensational display at Austin Stack Park. But in the end, it was Milltown-Castlemaine who were celebrating after 0-8 from Éanna O’Connor – son of Kerry manager Jack – helped them to a dramatic 2-13 to 0-18 victory.
Bidding for back-to-back promotions, Fossa were ultimately undone by a brace of second half goals from Brendan Casey, the second of which came in the 57th minute after the reigning All-Ireland junior champions had regained the lead with four unanswered points.
