Brendan Rogers is confident that the county board will appoint the right candidate to fill the Derry football hotseat.

Speculation is rife that Malachy O'Rourke will be the next Oak Leaf manager after Ciaran Meenagh ruled himself out of taking the job on a permanent basis last week. Speaking to BBC NI after netting a hat-trick for Slaughtneil in their Derry SHC victory over Kevin Lynch's yesterday, Rogers said this about the former Fermanagh and Monaghan boss: "If that's who it is, that's who it is.

"Look he's obviously a proven winner as well. You'll be happy to have him I'm sure. Whatever the county board pick, we'll row in behind because they clearly know best so far."

The dual star added: "I'll let the county board do what they do best and figure out someone who is in the best interests of Derry."
