Two goals in the space of a minute looked to light up the first of this afternoon’s All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals at Croke Park.
After a drab opening half at HQ, Derry led by 0-6 to 0-5 and stretched their lead to four after the restart prior to Rory Maguire punching in his first ever championship goal for the Rebels on 48 minutes.
The strike had John Cleary’s men right back into contention but the Ulster champions responded immediately with a coolly taken goal by Conor Doherty off the back of a slick dummy to make it 1-9 to 1-5.
