There were incredible scenes at the end of the Galway North Board U19 'A' football final in Tuam Stadium last weekend.

A penalty shootout was needed to separate Dunmore MacHales and Claregalway after they had finished level on 1-6 to 0-9 after extra-time.

In the shootout, Dunmore raced into a 3-0 lead and looked to have secured victory when Claregalway's next kick rattled the crossbar. But the celebrations proved to be premature as the ball flew skywards before bouncing off the ground and spinning back into the empty net.

As the Dunmore players celebrated, a Claregalway supporter brought the bizarre incident to the match officials' attention, and the umpire duly raised his green flag.

But it was only a temporary reprieve for Claregalway as Dunmore scored the next penalty to spark celebrations for a second time.
