Lavey bounced back from their shock opening round defeat to Swatragh in style by beating holders Slaughtneil in the Derry SFC.
Goals either side of half-time from Shea Downey and the impressive Cailean O'Boyle proved decisive as the Erin's Own outfit prevailed on a 2-7 to 0-10 scoreline at Owenbeg yesterday.
Downey's sixth minute strike after some good work by his brother Calum and cousin Matthew handed the underdogs a 1-6 to 0-6 lead at the break.
Shane McGuigan's 0-8 haul for Slaughtneil proved in vain as they were sucker-punched by a second major on the restart when O'Boyle reacted quickest to bundle home a rebound from Niall Toner's shot.
Elsewhere, Cormac Murphy's early goal was the difference as O’Donovan Rossa defeated hosts Bellaghy (1-11 to 0-11), while Swatragh racked up an impressive tally of 4-23 against Claudy's 0-3 and Dungiven sqeezed past The Loup, 2-10 to 3-6.
