Team news: Feehily earns first championship start

June 24, 2021

Sligo's Ryan Feehily and Peter Naughton.

Former Connacht Rugby Academy player Ryan Feehily earns a first championship start with the Sligo senior footballers as they prepare for a meeting with Mayo on Saturday evening.

The Yeats County were forced to pull out of last year's championship due to unforeseen circumstances but will make their Connacht SFC return against the holders at home in Markievicz Park, under new manager and ex-Mayo selector Tony McEntee.

Feehily was an impressive figure for St Mary's in the 2020 club championship and is selected at corner-back, while talented basketball player Cian Lally lines out at centre-forward, a former team-mate of Mayo's Aidan O'Shea with Ej Sligo All Stars.

Top scorer in last year's Mayo SFC as his club Knockmore claimed the Moclair Cup for the first time in 23 years, Peter Naughton could make his championship debut for Sligo after switching his county allegiance.

Sligo (Connacht SFC v Mayo): Eamonn Kilgannon; Ryan Feehily, Eddie McGuinness, Evan Lyons; Keelan Cawley, Paul McNamara, Darragh Cummins; Paddy O'Connor, Paul Kilcoyne; David Quinn, Cian Lally, Mikey Gordon; Nathan Rooney, Niall Murphy, Sean Carrabine.
