Tyrone's Conor McKenna pulls the trigger against Mayo

Tyrone star Conor McKenna says he is keen to get back to action with the Red Hands when the new season gets underway and hopes to “knock Dublin off their perch”.

McKenna returned home from a six-year stint playing in the AFL with Essendon last September and came straight into Mickey Harte’s squad, impressing in their closing Allianz League outing and Ulster SFC defeat to Donegal.

Since then, Fergal Logan and Brian Dooher have succeeded Harte and McKenna expects them to give “a new lease of life” to the group.

"I'm happy with the decision to be back home," the Eglish clubman told RTE’s 2fm’s Game On. 

"I wasn’t missing it as much when I was away, because I was watching and the game looked like it had gone more defensive. 

"But now it looks as though it is going back to the way it was five or six years ago, as teams have tried to beat Dublin [defensively] but couldn’t do it and now have to go back to the way it was before." 

He added: "I can’t wait to get going and the new management will give a new lease of life to all the players, and we’ll look to knock Dublin off their perch if we can."
