I see that GAA GO are not showing Monaghan v Donegal, the only D1 match not available. Has anyone else noticed , a bias towards Monaghan as regards TV coverage? ..... Ok when we play profile teams like, Dubs, Kerry & Mayo, they will get coverage. When was the last time Monaghan v an Ulster team was shown live in NFL ?.... " a sure it's only wee Monaghan" attitudes.. grrrrr!

Just left this memory to the last minute!..... Being a Monaghan man married to a Mayo Lass... 'tis a significant game for both of us. Me, of course a fervent Monaghan supporter!...
Many Mayo folk will remember the famous draw/replay in '96 ( I think), all-Ire final. to cut a VERY long story short, Pat McEneaney ( Mon Ref) sent off Liam McHale in that in-famous brawl... Mayo were LIVID!...... McEnaney became despised in Mayo ( & ps; I dont agree)
In those day's, the NFL, started in Oct., just weeks after the all-Ireland...
... guess what!.... Mayo's 1st lge game was v Mon in C'bar!...... I was at it !....
The Monaghan Capt., that day was Frank McEnaney ( bro of Ref, pat)...
I was in the stand in C'bar when the Mon team took the field... I feared the worst.. a severe booing!
To my amazement, the Monaghan team got a STANDING OVATION frfom the Mayo fans!
.. as long as I live, that memory . will live with me,... thanks Mayo, but c'mon on the Farney !

Replying To monaghanmad: "The lads will be sick that they didn't get something out of the game yesterday. They are experienced enough to know that points in division one are at a minimum. We have got points before playing worse and against teams that played better than galway yesterday. Our defense is worrying, especially our full back line but can be worked on. Dessie wars seems to be pushing on as a footbler which is good to see. Mc manus had a shocker and we scored 16 points and how much of that came from play. We needed a goal to win it. Mulligan and woods showed a small bit of inexperience at the end and probably needed experienced players there but however both will learn and if we have to loose to take these men on then so be it. Bannigan was brilliant I thought. Serious speed and a real scoring threat. Mc Guinness seems a real goal scorer like he always was and it's brilliant to take him off the bench. He has the experience and every time he comes on you'd expect him to make an impact. We won't be taking through 7 or 8 young men every year. If we only take through 3 or 4 every year then we are doing well. Bannigan woods Mulligan dessie ward niall kearns mc carthy Boyle o toole mc Bennett. All young men so banty is flooding young men. He's doing a great job so far and this team is experienced enough and hungry to go out next week and get a win. If we play to the same levels throughout the league that we played yesterday then we will stay up. That performance yesterday would beat Meath mayo Kerry and Tyrone at home."
Totally disagree, thought Mansy had a great game. I was actually very pleased with our overall performance, but not result. Subs/new lads did very well overall.
I got the feeling yesterday, the urgency & drive of 2 years ago was back. IF we continue in that vien , we will survive & can look forward to a good summer !

Would strongly advise to be in Salthill/ City by 11.30am... 80% + of the traffic, will be coming for both game & races fromthe east side (your route).....If u get caught in high traffic, expect up to 2 hrs to get through!.... Car parks around city will fill up fast. There are plenty Electronic signs as you approach city , showing availability. Parking in Salthill probably gone am.
Stadium aprox 30 min walk from Centre, there is an excellent 15 min frequency bus to Salthill, bottom of Eyre Sq (in front of AIB) or get on at stop opposite Jury's hotel.... HON THE FARNEY & safe travels!
Ps; If parking around the Docks, be careful to pay at the right machine. There are 3 operators here (1) Galway Harbour ; (11)Dun Aengus; (111) Galway City Co. ...... Harbour & Dun Aengus BOTH clamp at will ( no mercy!)

Missed peno, few easy frees missed, lost all his 50/50 balls and then fumbled when was released for mc guinness goal chance. That ball would have been held onto and put over the bar by a fully fit mansy. I mean he had a poor game by his very high standards."]Yes missed a peno & a couple of wides from acute angles, while been tightly marked. However, scored 1-6..... 3 from play +3 frees. his pts from play were quality strikes. He set up Mulligan, McCarron & K hughes for pts. He set up a great goal chance near the end for McGuinness. I counted he lost 2 balls, which were not close to being a 50/50 chance. As usual marked very tight throughout & worked his " socks off".

Monaghan'S Greatest Football Over The Last 50 Years - 2 Like(s)
This article written by Independent, to accompany top 20 selection.
OF the 12 All Star awards won by Monaghan, Eugene 'Nudie' Hughes and Conor McManus have won six between them in a 3-3 split.
Who comes first? McManus, whose career still has some way to run, is certainly one of the best forwards of his generation, but we have opted for 'Nudie' at this stage on the basis of his versatility.
He won All Star awards at right-full back (1979) and left full-forward (1985 and 1988), joining an exclusive club reserved for players who have been honoured in both defence and attack.
'Nudie' was at right full-back when Monaghan powered their way to a first Ulster title for 41 years in 1979 before moving to attack on a team that won the county's first League title in 1985, followed by Ulster titles in 1985 and 1988. His days as a defensive rock were a big help as he sought to escape the vigorous attention of the close-marking brotherhood, especially in the Ulster championship.
McManus knows all about being a 'marked man' too, with opponents planning their defensive strategy around preventing him getting possession. Given the excellence of his finishing ability, that's understandable, even if how they go about it isn't always legal.
Ciarán Murray was one of the best centre-backs of the 1980s at a time when they tended to be less attack-minded than nowadays. He ignored that script, always seeking to go forward when he got possession.
He won an All Star award at No 6 in 1985, a year when Eamonn McEneaney was shamefully denied a similar honour in attack. He was the outstanding centre-forward that season, but was ruled ineligible arising from a dismissal in a seven-a-side tournament.
He was cleared to play in subsequent games on the same day but, bizarrely, was blocked from All Star selection under a ridiculous rule which prevented players who had been sent off - irrespective of the circumstances - from being considered for selection.

Replying To MachaireConnacht: "I think Clare beating Cork is a big potential. Not so much a shock but I favour Tyrone to beat Derry in Ulster.
London and NY are big potential banana skins. If Sligo are mentally still celebrating their Div 4 success London could be nicely positioned for an ambush. Because Leitrim just missed out on promotion I think they will be very focussed on NY but you never know. Both Leitrim and Sligo only bet the exiles by 4 points in both games last year and that was after both not playing a championship game since 2019." Woow!..... so Tyrone have already beaten Monaghan! ... A big shock to me! ... I was looking forward to that game, I didn't realize Tyrone have already won it!

This is one of the oldest & strongest derbies/rivalries in the GAA. Both these teams contested several Ulster finals in the 1800's.
Cavan folk are quick to point out " 5 all-Irelands", while us Farney are quick to ask them "did they enjoy them ?" ( 80+ yr olds exempt).
I notice it's the only D1 league game that neither Rte/TG4 intend showing highlites off next weekend. Typical, we are well use to this type of treatment, I suppose combined pop. of both counties is less than 120,000...... so its always the minority that give way.
This will be its usual tough & tight, too close to call. Any gamblers out there, a "red card" is a great
bet! Blaney no doubt will be "rocking" next Sun.
Here's hoping for a Farney win !

RIP Sean McCague....a giant within Monaghan football. Noting his achievements as previously mentioned.
To add to that, Monaghan were arguably the best team in Ireland '85-'86. People forget, after the NFL win, we lost one of our best ever forwards to injury, Bernie Murray ( never properly recovered)..... add to that our brilliant youthful centre half back, Declan Loughman, injured too.
At half time in the drawn game, a fluke of a kerry goal brought them to within 5 pts of Monaghan. Davy Byrne at midfield was having an outstanding game, but alas had to come off injured at ht...... No doubt we would have beaten Kerry, if Davy had of stayed one, as Jack O'Shea took control in the "2nd half.
Kerry went on to hammer Dublin in the all-Ireland final.
All down to a great manager.... Sean McCague... thank you Sean, RIP, & condolences to his fanmily.

Firstly, well done to the Hurlers, a great win & very impressed by the standard.
A very good game in Clones yesterday, some great long range points by both teams, Jack was superb, also Conor McCarthy , Michael Bannigan & Karl O'C were brill. Some great fielding , especially one outrageous catch by K Gallagher.
Onwards & upwards (hopefully)!
What was the attendance... 4,000ish?
