Micheál Donoghue believes Galway’s mixture of youth and experience is working well.

The Galway manager would appear to have struck the right balance as young guns such as Cillian Trayers, Darragh Neary, Jason Rabbitte, Josh Ryan, Aaron Niland and Cian Daniels have blended in seamlessly with veterans like Cathal Mannion and Conor Whelan.

"It’s the infusion of so many young fellas," Donoghue told RTÉ ahead of Sunday’s All-Ireland SHC final against Limerick.

"They were involved in the squad last year which really gave them a good sense of what was involved. They knew the opportunity would be there for them this year, and in fairness to them, they have taken it with both hands and they are hurling with a freedom and abandonment that is great to see."

He added: "The experienced players have shown their desire to continue to grow and they are in great form. There is a great chemistry with the young fellas. It’s a nice blend and I'm looking forward now to see how that goes."
