Derry ace Rogers ties the knot with former Down camogie star

Derry midfielder Brendan Rogers capped off a remarkable year on Wednesday when he married his fiancé Brid McGourty.

Rogers enjoyed a splendid season with the Oak Leafers that saw them starting off with a Dr McKenna Cup success before earning promotion to Division 1 and retaining the Ulster SFC title in May.

A two-point loss to Kerry in the All-Ireland semi-finals would spell an end to Derry’s season in mid-July and Rogers’ exploits throughout the campiagn would go on to see him earning an All-Star award at centre-field.

In September, he’d captain his native Slaughtneil to their 11th consecutive Derry senior hurling championship success.

His now wife Brid also played a key role in championship success for Slaughtneil back in October, registering 1-3 in the camogs’ 1-15 to 0-7 final victory over Swatragh.

The former Down and Ballycran defender’s tally that day helped inspire Slaughtneil to what was a ninth senior championship title in-a-row.

With Ulster club championship duty potentially putting their December 27th wedding date at risk, Rogers and McGourty got to tie the knot two days ago and received the following best wishes from Derry GAA on the day:
