The Tailteann Cup has been a huge success.
The new second-tier football championship, which was delayed by two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, culminated in a thrilling final at Croke Park last Saturday between neighbours Westmeath and Cavan. A late Kieran Martin goal ensured Westmeath would be the inaugural winners and sparked the biggest celebrations the Lake County has seen since they won the Leinster SFC title in 2004.
But for those watching at home on TV, RTÉ's failure to cut to an ad break while former GAA president John Horan presented the Tailteann Cup to Westmeath captain Kevin Maguire left a sour taste.
Savage from @westmeathgaa great performance.. @rte missing the Trophy presentation was a major disappointment for all the kids in my gaff! #TailteannCup

The Tailteann Cup has been so successful that RTE are considering showing the trophy presentation live next year. #sundaygame
