UL will be looking to David Clifford to inspire them to victory in this evening’s televised Sigerson Cup final against NUIG at IT Carlow (throw-in 7.30pm).
The Kerry star has been in prolific scoring form for the Limerick college who are contesting their first final in 25 years. Clifford has hit 5-20 in just four games and is the man NUIG must stop if they’re to claim a 23rd title. He’s ably assisted by Cork’s Sean Powter, Paul Towey from Mayo and fellow Kerrymen Donal O’Sullivan and Paul Walsh.
Managed by former Mayo dead-ball specialist Maurice Sheridan, NUIG have plenty of attacking talent of their own in Galway seniors Tomo Culhane and Matthew Tierney, and Mayo’s Fionn McDonagh. But the absence of Tommy Conroy through a season-ending ACL injury is a major blow. UL will also be without another Mayo star, Eoghan McLaughlin, who is sidelined with an ankle injury.
It promises to be a cracking decider, with Clifford’s hot form making UL marginal favourites.
