St Patrick's Park in Enniscorthy has been subject to ongoing vandalism recently, a problem that is forcing Wexford GAA to spend thousands of euro on CCTV cameras.

The scoreboard hut was left burned out after vandals set it alight and the dressing rooms and windows were broken into, causing extensive damage.

At a time when their income is greatly reduced due to Covid-19, much-needed money will be spent on repairing the damage at the secondary county grounds.

Wexford football and hurling teams regularly train at St Patrick's Park which also hosts inter-county matches.

In an information bulletin after their recent meeting, Wexford GAA said the vandalism "will necessitate the installation of CCTV" and that Gardaí are now "visiting the pitch several times a day."

"There is an ongoing problem with vandalism at St. Patrick’s Park, Enniscorthy, which will necessitate the installation of CCTV," the bulletin reads.

"The dressing rooms were broken into, the windows were broken and the scoreboard hut was set on fire and badly damaged.

"An Garda Síochána is aware of these issues and is now visiting the pitch several times a day as part of its patrolling duties.

"There will be a significant cost to repair the damage."
