Anti-GAA sign outside Dungannon, Co. Tyrone.

Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew has spoken out against an anti-GAA sign that was erected in Dungannon, Co. Tyrone recently.

A sign with the GAA logo saying "the sporting wing of the IRA, not welcome in this area" was placed in Coolhill outside the town.

The Fermanagh and South Tyrone representative hit out at what she described as a sectarian attack on Gaelic Games which is strong in Dungannon with the Thomas Clarke GAC and Eoghan Ruadh hurling clubs catering for a large community.

"The erection of this threatening and sectarian banner in Dungannon is the latest of a series of reprehensible attacks on the sport," Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew said.

“The GAA is inclusive and open, it welcomes all sections of society to participate in its games.

“Within Tyrone the GAA is the bedrock of many communities.

“In particular Thomas Clarke GAC and Eoghan Ruadh Hurling Club are deeply embedded in the local community of Dungannon."
