Replying To Nothingbutthetruth:  "Contrasting views, Robbie Brennan doesn't see any issue in getting named and on the other hand COR wouldn't names his new coaching ticket because lads were still involved in the club. The more I hear and see the more I'm glad a change has come about. Maybe COR didn't have anyone hence County board pulling the plug, maybe its time to move on from all the greats ( on the field ) of Meath football. NO more jobs for the boys.."
No point in looking back, we are now in the RB era and the very best of luck to him. It's a tough job and hopefully he will be given time to bring about change. Next few years very important for Meath football.

it's great to get this done.. I'm really pleased we have a solid management team in place , would be nice to see a meath face in the backroom team as well . Staying in Division two is a must for the first season .

Best of luck to RB and his team.

Personally I would have taking a completely different route and went for a man who has been part of the Dublin setup the last 10 years at some point.
They have set the template and made other counties improve or get left behind.

Declan Darcy, Jason Sherlock or even one better Pat Gilroy. They know what's needed internally to progress and develop and what ingredients is needed. then again , do we have the funding available with what is required ?

Still think we are well behind in the coaching, strength and conditioning and set play end of the new modern game.

Honestly think we need someone from outside the county.

But in my opinion the only way is up, probably ranked around 14th in the country and would hate to think we would slip further down the rankings next season.

Just my opinion and my opinions are my own.

I think straight away we need to be aiming for a bit more than 'staying in div. 2'. Wouldn't think that would be an acceptable goal if COR were still there and shouldn't be now.
Straight away I think we need to start competing at the upper end of div. 2 and striving for promotion. A meaningful style of play with a combination of being difficult to break down but having a genuine attacking gamelan where we can finally manage to get decent scoring tallies are obvious areas where we can improve.

What has Declan Darcy or Jason Sherlock done that RB hasn't I'd say his cv is way above both of them .
His 2 coaches are from outside the county both with plenty of experience so I think as a team rated 14 as you believe we have done very well getting these lads Now it's up to the players to perform I don't think it will be the Managers or Coaches fault this time if we don't improve .

I love this line

"Still think we are well behind in the coaching, strength and conditioning and set play end of the new modern game".

We are doing all of these with one of the best S&C persons around, AFL experience, the lot. S&C for example is not a light switch its a Culture and it needs to start when players are younger, functional movement and build from there. Reason players gets injured easily is due to loading and bring lads into the intense training when not used to it increases the risk of injury. No matter who the S&C person is unless you have been building since mid teens then there will always be an issue.

Your second point " set Play" in my view it doesn't hold any weight at all. Even club teams are working on systems of play its all about the execution of those systems ( Technical Prowess) & (Technical Proficiency) . Where Meath's lack is the continuation of these principles from there development squads to adult. 17 to 20 is to big a gap and I know for a fact not enough is getting done during these years. It was only last year that we had a senior development squad to try and bridge the gap.

A failing is the lack of continuity in the process with these lads, an example of this would have been the minors who won the All Ireland and then this year went on to Contest an All Ireland U20 semi final ( which they should have won) but they were conditioned and played great football. These things take time and I see a lot of work been done at underage across all of these platforms. The only things I would question, Do we have the right people in charge of these? Cathal O'Bric has coached these lads from u14 so a lot in that model has worked.

Meath managed to stay in Division 2 for the past two years despite not performing remotely well in the majority of games in that period, with the exception of Cork away in 2023. They should be aiming for the promotion spots.

Steady on fella. New management aren't miracle workers and considering there has been zero evidence that we are capable of pushing for promotion in the last 2 years I think it's a bit ambitious to expect us to be pushing because of a new management that will have had a few months with the players.

I'd strongly agree with you Lutch. I'm content enough though as I'd see Brennan as a halfway house to that - he's seen at first hand what the standard is for the top club in the country. I'm not sure we would have gotten Pat Gilroy onboard and while I would be all for a Dublin coach (and the full integration of immigrant Dubs into Meath GAA culture), I'm not sure I could deal with the condescension of having a former All Ireland winning Dublin manager on board as manager.

Lets not get too carried away. Other than Costello, we don't have Div 1 level forwards in the county so hard to see us getting promoted! I agree on the rest of your post though - looking forward to finally seeing a coherent strategy both in defence and attack.

Who put this so called new management team together? Spent the last three months getting two great coaches and then railroaded? Can anyone answer those questions?

Yeah looking forward to the 2025 season now with RB and the backroom he has coming with him, no disrespect to the former backroom team but to me this is a vast improvement

Eoghan Frayne played great this year with very little to work with he could easily keep that momentum to Div 1 level, Jordan Morris & Shane Walsh aren't a million miles off, if they can stay fit and with good coaching to keep improving them and they can progress to that level aswell. Jack O'Connor is the best runner with the ball we have, he can easily get us 30-40yrds up the pitch on counter attacks and when in full flight is very hard to stop but again needs to coaching to keep him progressing and maintain consistency. We're not too far off promotion level in Div 2 with the players we have we just need that structure and clear plan, I see 4-5 very winnable games in the league and the other 2 comes down to the day.
