Looks like quite a bit of unrest in mayo re. management ticket for 2025. Would love to see Rochford pick up role and bringing donie Buckley along also would be the cherry...

If Rochford is interested in the job, its a done deal for me. It is the appointment Meath have been crying out for and ticks every box.

What has he won as manager?

Won an All Ireland club with Corofin and got Mayo to within a point of the greatest ever team to play the game in two All Ireland finals. The 'what has he won' argument is the greatest load of bs argument anyone could ever throw out about any manager. What had Kieran McGeeney won in 10 years managing Armagh? Nothing but he is by a country mile the best man for the job.

Also won a ulsters with Donegal as coach and a national league title with Mayo. His Corofin teams and 2016/17 Mayo played magnificent football and if there's rule changes that could play even more into his hands. As another post said it if he wants the job it has to be his. Been involved with division 1 teams in a key role for almost 10 years, he will know exactly what our young team need to improve on to get to that level. Sounds a bit too good to be true tbh

I have been told from few sources that Rochford is a great coach but a poor manager, would love to see him as part of the overall team but only as the coach.

Stephen is a very good coach. Hard to judge him as an assistant and winning an Ulster with Donegal or a league, in a season where teams were aiming to peak later under the new format, weren't massive achievements. His big achievement was winning an All Ireland with Corofin after a long gap to their previous win. But he had plenty of talent to work with. Similar to Mayo 2016 and 2017. A lot of good players and peak Andy Moran who benefitted from a career change. We still lost both years and in 2024, with Stephen in the backroom, still can't close out big games.

Hopefully he hasn't lost his mojo and has no fear of making changes to try and improve. Converting a class player like Kevin McLoughlin into a sweeper, Aido to full back to mark Star. He's remembered too for dropping David Clarke for a nervy Robbie Hennelly which didn't end well but I have to admire him for not doing what most coaches and managers did with Mayo for more than 60 years, the same thing expecting a better outcome. I'd love to see him get the job and do great with Meath and sticking two fingers up to our county board who shafted him in 2018. I'm still slowly learning about the men's game in Meath but sounds like a decent plan to have a neutral unbiased set of eyes to unearth potential players, help choose a Meath squad and less involved with politics when teams are picked.

If you look at soccer , all mangers now are coaches , Kloop , Pep Guardiola etc .. Lee Carsley the England manger is a coach not a manager .

Its better having a good coach than a good manager , the coach is now the most important person in football.

First of all, Gaelic football is not soccer. Secondly it is not professional. Soccer clubs have other multiple roles behind the scenes that we don't know about.

Awwwe did I upset you ?

Anyways a good coach is the most important thing in Gaelic football now over the last 6 or 7 years , Mangers are not that important anymore , people are still living in 80s and 90s thinking you need just one man to do it all , Gaelic Football now has multiple roles , limerick hurling has a backroom team of 53 people , I am sure they have all multiple roles just like soccer , rugby etc , Gaelic football is moving on , adapting and evolving , some Meath fans on here I think should do the same :)

Every sport progresses and evolves. The Gaa is only amateur in name only, particularly at inter county level.

Look at any club game, junior to senior.

Money taken at gate
Sponsorship boards around pitch
Sponsorship on tops
Managers on "expenses"
Coach's on "expenses"
Referees on "expenses"
Physio on hourly rate
Gaa pod casts, clubber, gaa go, monetise their content
Only ones at monetary loss are players. This club level

Inter county add in monetising of images of players, interviews, videos, of players. Kit Sponsorship. Tv rights. Corporate hospitality.

Guy selling hot dogs, burgers, coffee makes money

Security gaurds make money

This romantic idea of pure amateurism is nice, but flawed.

I'm not saying for one second professionalism is the answer. But I am saying sports evolve.

Is it a thing where players earn a small wage or bonus depending on progress?

After all everyone else is making money.

AFL model?

Lar Wall and his proposed management team of Cathal O'Bric, Mark McHugh and Paul Garrigan is rumoured to be the front runner for the job, and I can see why based on this management team. In my opinion, it trumps Brennan and his ticket. It has recent intercounty experience with McHugh and Wall both with Roscommon in the last two seasons and also has the obvious link to the U20s with Cathal O'Bric and Paul Garrigan.

Interesting. RBs ticket has recent Inter County experience also with McMahon and Corey coaching with Tyrone and Cavan.

The link to the u20s I don't see it as being of massive importance

It's a tough one to call and to be honest I'd be happy with either because both are an upgrade on the last 2 years in my opinion.

Not according to Tommy Rooney.. Flynn now not involved which is interesting and he was originally part of Brennan's ticket!

Great news that an appointment is imminent. Two good candidates and it was a case of splitting hairs trying to decide between them. Having team in place before club championship knockouts is job done. Do wonder if Lar Wall will head to Westmeath now, that will make the league meeting extra interesting if so.
