Replying To seadog54:  "No, expected little from last night's meeting which only muddied the water further. Why bother when no quirie's were answered. Apart from two men rest of board seem in the dark as to what happened. It may not suit but other delegats express concern. It is not so long ago we sacked by vote and got rid of a good man. I have supported COR since his appointment and bought into his attempt to get things right. I also understand some supporters impatience with progress. We are now back to square one and entering once more into the unwieldy process."
Some supporters impatience with progress...

Are you for real ?? There was no progress. Absolutely zero and that was the issue. If supporters could see even a small sign of progress and some signs of an identity on the pitch I believe most would have been happy for the management to continue. To imply supporters were inpatient because they weren't happy with Absolutely no improvement in 2 years is ridiculous.

Have to agree I was fully behind ORourke until the Longford game and anyone that was at that game could see that we were going nowhere with the coaching and system or lack of system that the players were been asked to play .
And then we had the Louth game and if that didn't open everyone's eyes nothing will .
After 2 years and 2 sets of coaches we were further away for competing with the top teams and the top teams aren't that good when you look at what played in the all Ireland final .
If we can't get to that level with the amount of good young talent we have I'd be shocked but they need the right coaches in place but COR failed badly in getting in the right people .
To come out and say that he had people lined up for next year but couldn't name them becauae they were still involved with clubs would tell me they were of similar stature to the previous coaches and I don't see why he couldn't name them to clear up the uncertainty.

There is also no reason why he couldn't have informed the review committee in confidence of who's these 2 coaches were and then not release it to the public until they were finished with their clubs but he wouldn't even do that. I see nothing wrong with the review committee demanding to know who these people were.

If the clubs they are with were to win their club championships and have a run in their provincial championship it could be December or if they get out of their province it could be January or February before they are finished and what then ??

Replying To seadog54:  "The more I read the stronger my belief we have shot ourselves in foot once again. COR should have been given another year and a chance to finalise his backroom team and attempt to finish job he started. Last night's CB meeting were either unwilling or unable to answer questions. Was decision made by two men with rest kept in the dark ?It looks like another internal appointment with RB the prefered choice. A coach with no intercounty experience who is still committed to club. When would he take over.when KC are out of championship or maybe late next year if club progress to club semi or final ?. Since Sean B was asked to interview for the job he held for 23 years, we have gone backward's. Now COR plan has been scuppered in hunt for a quick fix."
Where do you even start with this. COR should have been given a chance to finalise his backroom team? It was 10 weeks since we got knocked out. If he wanted to add to his coaching ticket he had plenty of time. What if he didn't have any decent coaches to come in (and given that 4 of his coaching ticket left over the last 2 years that was very possible). Also what was COR's "plan" other than play young players, and that's not a plan, that's a built in excuse. A plan is a proper gameplan, proper coaching expertise, building a settled team to play in a certain way, not chopping and changing. Last year COR started a player in a league game and then dropped him off the panel the same day. This year we completely changed our style of play from the Louth game to the Kerry game. Players were added to the panel after both the league and Leinster championship had finished then made their Meath senior debut in championships. And that's no slight on those players at all who are well worthy of their place in the panel. But it wouldn't happen if there was a coherent plan to develop the team in place

Exactly this.

There has never been a clearer sign of no identity than the Kerry game.

O' Rourke seen Louth's approach and tried to copy it for the Kerry starting Sean Ryan and Michael Murphy as wing fowards, playing with effectively 12 defenders on the pitch.

Not so sure about in confidence, everything else seemed to leak out. But is that not the exact problem we may face if RB is selected. Kilmacud lightly to go the distance again.

But if RB was confirmed and was double jobbing for a short period of 4/6 weeks but it was public knowledge he was the new manager and who was on his management team there would be no issue .

The problem was COR wasn't willing to even tell the review committee who these coaches were so we could have had a situation that we were in December or early January and not even know who these coaches were. Them having Club commitments until December or January wouldn't have been a massive issue IMO as long as we knew they were coming into the Meath setup when their club commitments were finished.

Doubt it would have dragged on that long, just expressing my opinion on COR. Time to move on and really hope to see an upturn in Meath football. Latest betting see's RB and Lar Wall joint fav's.

You doubt it but you don't know. Neither do I and neither did the review committee. These coaches could be available next week if their clubs go out or could be still not available in December because they are still going. That problem here was the unknown and not that these lads might not have been available until November. Colm had 10 weeks to nail down his management team and he couldn't do it so the correct call was made with a parting of the ways.

Well not really a surprise outcome when Colm said himself if he did not improve things somewhat in 2 years he would walk himself .I think that is accurate .Nevertheless ,full credit to him for giving it a go anyway. In Meath he will be always remebered as an alltime great forward anyway.

Would say a lot depend's on RB committment to Kilmacud. Fair chance they may have another extended season.

Certainly of those available Brennan and Wall would be the strongest in terms of record of achievements and experience as managers / coaches at the highest level. There are some folks in the papers, radio and social media putting forward former great players to be involved but few have achieved much as coaches or managers. I think its common knowledge now that great players don't make great managers in every case. We should only be considering those with a track record of success as coaches and/or managers. No half measures, no more mediocrity.

anybody with a passing interest in Meath Senior Football between the years 2015-2020 would l know how good a coach lar wall was . but instead...because he was with an unfancied Team & hadn't got any "county " experience ..he was'nt given much credit . He was available To Us..We just hadnt the foresight

Has Robbie Brennan actually made any statements about going for the job?

Not publicly but he is going for it with Bernard Flynn as selector. No word on coaches yet.

Looking at the candidates available at the minute:

Robbie Brennan: Has great club experience with Crokes, won a club AI but might not have an in depth knowledge of Meath club football and probably won't get the chance to see many championship matches while still going with KC. Hasn't been involved in an Inter County set up as far as I know so does he know the expectations or the demands. He's been blessed with KC as most players live and work close by but with Meath there's players working and in college in Dublin, Maynooth and other parts of the country.

Lar Wall: Great knowledge of the Meath club scene. Success with the Downs and brought a Kells team on leaps and bounds, unlucky not to win a championship with them. He has been involved with Roscommon so he will have a knowledge of how much is required at an Inter County level.

Kevin Reilly: Good success with Trim especially as he had to manage the dual players which he done very well. Has been involved in u20 set ups. He would be good to be on a coaching ticket but not as a manager.

Malachy O Rourke: Probably the one that will least happen. Success with Monaghan and Glen however if he was to take the job it would be similar to Brennan in that he won't see much of the club championship.

Ideal coaching ticket for me would be as follows:
Manager: Malachy O Rourke
Selectors: Kevin Reilly, David Gallagher and Lar Wall
Would need to bring in a top class coach, S&C coach, nutritionist, physio.

Lar Wall would also be a good manager with the two other lads above as selectors and maybe someone like Cian Ward or Dean Rock in there as well.

Malachy O'Rourke strongly linked to the Tyrone Vacancy .

I can never understand people linking Malachy O'Rourke to the Meath job. Why would he be interested in it. By the sounds of things he is going to Tyrone anyway.

Robbie Brennan knows plenty about the club scene in Meath. He played for and managed Dunboyne. He was in Pairc Tailteann last Sunday at the two SFC games. It looks like it is between Robbie Brennan and Lar Wall as both are going for it on their own. Robbie Brennan is rumoured to have Bernard Flynn with him and is looking for a high profile coach. Andy Morans name has been mentioned with Brennans ticket. Lar Wall is putting together his team and Ross Munnelly from Laois is a name that is attached to Lar Walls ticket. I expect one or both of them to declare their hands publicly if it is between the two of them. I would expect both of them to be able to put together two very strong backroom teams.

A difficult decision as I would rate both very highly. I would slightly go towards Brennan at the moment.
