Not mad about Sherlock as the main man at all. Could be a possible coach however.

It's getting ridiculous thata decision still has to be made on O Rourke. Ashrules (Dublin) - Posts: 549 - 15/08/2024 13:10:46 2565248 Link 1 |
Good to see posters looking outside the County. Especially for candidates with a track record of success. Ashrules (Dublin) - Posts: 549 - 15/08/2024 13:14:21 2565251 Link 0 |
Agreed. The players have let their feelings be known, his two coaches have left after two other coaches left the year before. If the management review suggested a change of management surely COR has been informed of that and hasn't decided to leave. He's hardly going to find out this Thursday when the rest of us find out

James Horan would be a good pick. WhyTheLongFace (Meath) - Posts: 934 - 15/08/2024 13:57:35 2565270 Link 0 |
If position were to become available there is no harm looking outside county, however, this is no shortcut to success as we have witnessed with many counties who have chosen this route. For every Louth there is a Kildare or Derry. Is there a top coach looking at Meath squad and thinking " this is a group with great potential" ? So far evidence does not back this up. Will we settle for someone who is just on the market and looking for a job ? For me it comes down to the players, do they want change and if so what exactly are they seeking?

Maybe a few but not as many marbles as Meath have lost games to Dublin over the last 20 years. Seriously. We have to go after All Ireland winners in the modern era and the majority are in Dublin which is right on our doorstep. To settle for anything less than that is just setting ourselves up for mediocrity. At this point I don't care if they are Dubs. Our rivalry with them is effectively dead at this point anyway so why get hung up about it at this stage. LoyalRoyal (None) - Posts: 464 - 15/08/2024 15:27:51 2565284 Link 1 |
Not a slight on Gillespie but with Meath club football as it is I wouldn't appoint through that route unless a a manger hit unprecedented success. MeathAbroad (Meath) - Posts: 94 - 15/08/2024 17:00:20 2565305 Link 0 |
Really hope Cathal Obric gets it. He just ticks all the boxes for me. The only outsiders I'd prefer would be either James Horan or Eamon Fitz (I understand these probably wouldn't take a job outside their own county) Sheridan2010louth (Meath) - Posts: 181 - 15/08/2024 19:22:42 2565328 Link 0 |
Absolutely agree, not sure if he'd take a job outside of Mayo but he would be my choice of the outsiders.

"This review remains ongoing and will be concluded in advance of the Co. Committee meeting on Tuesday August 27" MeathAbroad (Meath) - Posts: 94 - 15/08/2024 22:34:07 2565353 Link 0 |
The announcement or lack thereof is absolutely pathetic. Pushed back until the 27th of August. It'll be 10 and a half weeks since we got knocked out by then. 2 rounds of club championship will be finished (that's half the club championship for a lot of teams). 3 years ago we got knocked out of the championship on the 18th July, 12 weeks later the management review suggested the manager be gotten rid of. What the hell is going on at the top of Meath GAA. What could possibly change between now and 12 days time that 2 years of evidence, a players survey and then another 9 weeks couldn't have told you. Sums it up, an acceptance of poor standards. Make a bloody decision and back your judgement LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1523 - 15/08/2024 22:45:46 2565355 Link 5 |
Looks like new backroom team under O'Rourke will be in place and an announcement and confirmation by then. Let that be it and move on with this. Change was needed and looks like change will be happening. Let O'Rourke lead it and try and remedy the wrongs with fresh setup. winatallcost (Meath) - Posts: 587 - 15/08/2024 23:36:53 2565362 Link 0 |
Colm o Rourke got and deserved great respect. But the chance to step down with dignity is slipping away. Ashrules (Dublin) - Posts: 549 - 16/08/2024 00:46:21 2565370 Link 0 |
Seeing it accepted as fact that the player's responses were scathing about management. Just curious where this leaked? Not seeing a word of it anywhere aside from people claiming it's definitely true! MeathAbroad (Meath) - Posts: 94 - 16/08/2024 07:25:52 2565375 Link 0 |
So the update is .... there is no update. Can you imagine how this looks to any potential outsider from the outside looking in? Surely somebody involved in the country board must be saying that this delay is not acceptable. Surely? seasiderblues (Meath) - Posts: 352 - 16/08/2024 07:58:05 2565377 Link 0 |
He has tried with 2 coaching tickets already...only one common demoninator here...

The review was completed so to say in a statement that it is not is misleading and its buying time for someone Is the county board waiting to see if COR will resign. The problem for the County board is if they get rid of COR and his backroom team you are getting rid of Sean Boylan, Trevor Giles, Bray Callaghan all of which was honoured in Croke Park only two weeks ago plus Bray etc. Have you ever been at a County board meeting? COR will have his stench club delegates supporting him regardless ( isn't this part of the problem) so the County committee will have to put their recommendation to the delegates and id not be sure that they would get the support from the floor to get rid of COR. Cast back to when half the County Board wanted McEntee out, they lost that vote. We are now in a worse situation and with the bickering with the county executive in full swing and the ongoing power struggle Id nearly bet that they are trying to buy more time in the hope that it doesn't go to a vote. Obviously what is going on is O'Rourke is staying and they are just giving him more time to get the backroom team set up. Can't see how they will be making a change now with it being so late in the day. Lots of top coaches such as Lar Wall out there in Meath. If O'Rourke wants to make any sort of decent fist of this job, he needs to get these coaches in place and let them coach and step back himself. He should count himself blessed to still have the job and should do whatever it takes to get it right. BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 997 - 16/08/2024 08:58:49 2565391 Link 0 |
