16 years is a lifetime in sport. Can't dwell on the past. Come back when they've actually won something this year. You don't get medals for semifinals.

Didn't they win a Brendan Davis earlier in the year?! Went to the games at the weekend. Hurling in general is just poor. Wonder what Johnny Greville made of it. Kilmessan were more that comfortable, even with 14 men. I cannot work out whether they have improved or if others have gone backwards but they are a nice way better of anything below them in the pecking order based on what they have doone so far this year. Their inside forward line failed to register but they also failed to find a lot of space in there either. Maybe it was the effect of the extra man, but they will need a lot more if they are to trouble Ratoath. Kildalkey have a great knack of being cherry ripe for this time of year. It goes back, I feel, to the stroll through the groups, they can be in 2nd gear and plod through and aim to peak right about now. hurlingcowboy101 (Meath) - Posts: 17 - 16/09/2024 16:59:29 2570214 Link 0 |
It's a really interesting one in IHC now Drumree gave Ashbourne a hiding in the groups but had the extra man for most of the game and more to play for. Ashbourne should've probably gone clear of B'Mill over weekend in similar situation. NOM will really fancy it now that they've taken out Kildalkey. Choosing to stay down now looking like a very smart call as they're looking better. I'd say Rathmolyon have been kept firing during their 'rest' time' Your mention of them losing games they should win makes it a fascinating final if Ashbourne beat Drumree - Rathmolyon missed out on the league final this year after losing to Don/Ash and were knocked out of the championship by them last year too!. Right now I'd say it's a Drumree/Rathmolyon final but couldn't call a winner after that tbh. RR (Meath) - Posts: 165 - 16/09/2024 18:12:28 2570226 Link 0 |
Ashbournes number 8 was red carded against Drumree yet was playing the qtr Final against Boardsmill over the weekend? As he got sent off so early I presumed it was a straight red but must have been two yellows? Anyone confirm?

Cant imagine Greville was too excited with what he saw over Saturday & Sunday. torres710 (Meath) - Posts: 27 - 17/09/2024 13:34:27 2570374 Link 0 |
There are plenty of good hurlers in the county but its just not attractive or appealing to commit to the county team. Rickoshay (Meath) - Posts: 30 - 17/09/2024 14:43:47 2570403 Link 1 |
Perhaps 2 yellows or won an appeal

Am hearing Boardsmill have put an official appeal in around the red card. I doubt Ashbourne woudl try and sneak him through so must have got assurances that he was good to play. RR (Meath) - Posts: 165 - 21/09/2024 13:46:21 2571157 Link 0 |
This could take a while to sort out, various committees could be busy, very busy.

Given Kilmessan are involved in Junior B Final, Junior A Final and Senior semi this weekend, would it have been an idea to put all 3 games on the same day? As it is it seems a bit mad to have Junior A on first with intermediate before Senior. It'll be a long weekend for the supporters! hurlingcowboy101 (Meath) - Posts: 17 - 24/09/2024 14:04:53 2571619 Link 0 |
Are yous ever happy on here ? always giving out about fixtures and refs and everything and not just talking about the games happening each weekend ?
Hurlingguy (Meath) - Posts: 1 - 24/09/2024 14:53:58 2571626 Link 0 |
Appeal rejected on account of ref's report so must've been two yellows
RR (Meath) - Posts: 165 - 25/09/2024 09:45:12 2571714 Link 0 |
Who's giving out? simply wondering if was another idea to possibly put the 3 games together, promote the good work being done and the fact that they are involved in the business end of 3 competitions. Similiar to Kildalkey's achievements last year with opportunities to promote it that are being missed (imo). An observation rather than a criticism. Not sure who's been giving out about refs - huge coup this year getting Sean Stack to referee games. Very accomplished referee who will lead standards going forward. I'm really hoping for 2 good semi finals this weekend - Ratoath out of football so primary focus can be on winning hurling title Trim in similiar scenario (although not sure 100% about their dual player numbers) Kildalkey and Kilmessan both have respective football commitments pending so remains to be seen if that impacts them. hurlingcowboy101 (Meath) - Posts: 17 - 25/09/2024 10:06:00 2571720 Link 0 |
It was a straight red given in the game but put down in the report as two yellows. Ashbourne very lucky not to suffer any consequences.

I wouldn't say luck if the CCC ruled in their favour. And as I said before, they probably got the all clear before the game from the county board, they wouldn't try pull a fast ome, at least the hurling side wouldnt whatever about the football

So semi final weekend is here, ParcT (Meath) - Posts: 21 - 27/09/2024 11:55:02 2572076 Link 0 |
i think kildalkey v trim might be extra time. if that happens trim will have the advantage of 3 extra days rest. overall i think the football probably shook kildalkey up a bit too much 6 day turn around is hard going. everything will need to go well for kildalkey to win, they are probabaly due a game that dosent go fully to script, i have a feeling trim by 2 or 3 in end of a battle. dickie10 (UK) - Posts: 767 - 27/09/2024 21:45:04 2572150 Link 0 |
SHC Trim vs Kildalkey - could be an absolute classic on our hands. Trim the ever so slight favourites but Kildalkey will be hell bent on hanging on to at least one of the treble and this is their last chance. Trim by 2 AET Ratoath vs Kilmessan - agree with your fine self that there's definitely a Jubilee in it for this Kilmessan panel, I just don't think it's this year. Ratoath by 4 IHC Drumree vs Don/Ash - another tricky one to call. drumree, as mentioned before, battered Ashbourne in a round Robin game with an extra man but had everything to play for while Ashbourne were already throigh. Ashbourne have looked battle hardened all through, even in defeat to both Navan and Drumree. The big thing if they are able to stop Drumree getting 20+ points, because they won't be able to put up that number themselves if not. I'm leaning towards Drumree by 6. Rathmolyon vs Navan - belter again. Have heard from Rathmolyon camp that there is a serious hunger to get back to senior and that if it's not this year it'll be next year. They're very confidence. NOM will be able to keep pace with them so it'll come down to accuracy. Hopefully we don't get a free fest. Going for NOM by 1 AET RR (Meath) - Posts: 165 - 28/09/2024 13:22:35 2572192 Link 0 |
Well ParcT you seem to be new to the Meath Hurling scene, funny you say that BHG would be relegation contenders in 2024 after Topping Senior B table & making a SHC Q-Final 2023. Compared to Longwood who should be plying their trade at Intermediate 2024 only for Kildalkey's 2nd team couldnt make the jump up to Senior.
