Not sure if people noticed this on sunday but Jason Scully was on the 26 man panel. It wasn't officially announced but he came in late for Daire rowe. Would be great to see him get some game time against Cavan. Think he would add something to this meath team. Sheridan2010louth (Meath) - Posts: 181 - 27/02/2024 08:10:18 2528534 Link 0 |
Think meaths luck will run out this weekend up north always a tough place to go . Lucky opposition left us in the game last 2 weeks I'd only love to be proved wrong tho as I do want my county to do well Pead0bum84 (Meath) - Posts: 26 - 27/02/2024 11:19:21 2528571 Link 1 |
I think that it may have been announced. We were on the terrace and there was an announcement that I barely heard but it did include the number 26.

id usually go but bit busy farming these days this time of year, always a lovely ground to go to , i never seen meath lose there actually against a neutral county, even beat kildare in hurling there once i think, christy ring semi final or something. I cant see us winning though, mad statistic Meath havent beaten Cavan in Breffni park since 1965, thats almost 60 years. dickie10 (UK) - Posts: 767 - 27/02/2024 12:30:42 2528596 Link 1 |
A bit optimistic of me maybe, but with the draw between Armagh and Donegal at weekend does that leave Meath with a chance of promotion if they win their final 3 games? (it's a big if i know). If we can get over a good Cavan team, we have Cork at home and then who knows? Set up a potential shoot out with Donegal on the last day. 3rdmanin (Meath) - Posts: 18 - 27/02/2024 15:56:42 2528671 Link 1 |
Not too optimistic. Cavan have always been a stumbling block for the best of Meath teams. And in Breffni much more so. We have a nice young team, short on some of their bigger players, but they have some credit in the bank from winning the Tailteann and getting back to back wins against Louth and Kildare. This game could and should be reasonably close but I think winning could be a step beyond Meath at present, however I think they can beat Cork and look for a good showing against Donegal. promotion talk crazy but nice to be talking about it and not relegation. its actually very simple, if we win our last 3 games we are promoted end of story. we would have 11 points the same as donegal, presumiing they win vs louth and kildare, we go up on head to head dickie10 (UK) - Posts: 767 - 27/02/2024 22:57:28 2528746 Link 1 |
Exactly. This year is shaping up to be more enjoyable as the threat of relegation now pretty much gone and who knows what could happen. Couldn't see us beating Donegal tho!

Ah I wouldn't worry too much about the Breffni talk. We actually rarely play each other there and that dates back to when we were strong eons ago. Looking forward to this anyway. The place should be full enough. For such a close neighbour at a similar level, we don't play enough for varying reasons. Should be nasty even like it used to be, but it hasn't been that recently so can't see it. Could do with a wee bit of bite to make this a derby. Either way, should be good and I'd say your boys will be very much up for this seeing as promotion is still mathematically in your hands too

If we were to win all our remaining league games, I believe the only scenario whereby Meath would not qualify to go to Division 1, is in the event of a three-way tie. In the event of a 3 way ties, the final positions of the three teams come down to points difference(in which case Meath are not well placed, from a promotion point of view against Armagh and Donegal) If only two teams finish level on points, the final positions of the two teams is based on the head to head result(if the head to head result happened to be a draw then its down to points difference). Morale and confidence a bit higher after 2 wins last 2 weekends. Cavan are definitely favourites. If we play well we should be competitive and have a chance of pulling off a win. Play bad and Cavan will give us a trimming. Breffni a lovely ground to play a match in. Hard to know how many we'll bring on a Saturday evening, it will be over late. I'd imagine most of the Meath supporters who will go will be from Kells and Oldcastle direction as Breffni not that far from there. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1400 - 28/02/2024 12:37:05 2528792 Link 1 |
Really looking forward to Saturday. This is for me is the one game that will tell us where we are and if we are improving or not because out of the last 3 teams we've played including Cavan they are the team for me that seem to be improving and heading in an upwardly curve. Agreed on most. Apart from one thing. We beat cavan and cork and we will meet the full Jim mcg Donegal. As the winner will go up and looser stays in div 2. That's why the prize is so big on Saturday. We win and then only cork stand in our way of havin a shoot out with Donegal to go up.

You're right that is a possibility but I expect Armagh to win their remaining 3 games and Donegal to win their remaining two before us so the best we could hope for is a 3 way tie at the top in which case would go to score difference and we will most likely lose out unless we dish out a couple of serious hammerings which is highly unlikely .

Hard to call, our performances have been pretty underwhelming and lucky enough to come up against a poor Louth and a Kildare team at 6's & 7's, the Armagh game is still in the back of my mind as to the damage fast breaking teams with good forwards can do to us. Yee had some close calls against Louth & Cork so maybe this has the making of a tight enough game.

But if we beat Donegal and Armagh win all their games Donegal and Armagh can't finish level on points?. Anyway we're underdogs this weekend so probably keep talk to this game. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1400 - 28/02/2024 15:56:09 2528823 Link 0 |
Sorry you are correct. I was thinking of Doengal winning all 3 games and us winning all 3 games which of course is not possible for both of us to do so

Ahh jasus you even convinced me of same thing :). Yep us and Donegal on same points only. So it goes head to head

Not much underdog. We had targeted this game as a win before league. And said the two harder games would be Kildare and cork at home. Now cavan have certainly had a good league so far. And in all honesty we haven't lived up to what we had hoped. And still got two wins less said about the first two games the better. But I'm optimistic that if we can sort out a few things. The kick outs , midfield and a couple of players backing themselves for shots we will win this.
