McEntee didn't take time out. He was let go from the panel because he was surplus to requirements . I would take him back in a heartbeat as probably the best 6 available to us.

Not a good night for the three Meath lads who started for UCD last night. A lot of talk about D M and not starting for Meath and it would be harsh to judge him on last night, however, he looks to have a way to go to be a nailed on starter. Lynch in fairness tried his best to get involved, won a few frees but found it tough in an often packed defence. Some excellent talent on show from both sides, Canavans and Cregg were top class. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2195 - 15/02/2024 15:08:45 2526218 Link 0 |
Sorry to hear Flynn has left panel, hopefully only short term, pleyed very well in latter half of last season, however, form has been poor to date this year, I see many have left him out of their chozen team to play Louth which is fair enough. Two big games coming up and unless we can start scoring goals we may find it very difficult to win. Hard to see us scoring 16/17 points in any game. Need to see some of our injured lads back, but either way we need a massive effort form all concerned, still plenty of time to kick on and insure safety. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2195 - 15/02/2024 15:24:44 2526224 Link 3 |
Well that's news to me. I thought after he got engaged and with the army job he had stepped away. Wow. Looking at how bad our centre back situation is how bad of a cal l does that now appear??

30 now and same with mcGill. O'Neill is settling in well and probably our best player last week. Will only improve with games. Let's stop talking about the past and move on with a very young team. They will improve as the league goes on.

Come on lads. We are not talking about Donal Keoghan here. Fair enough, he did have experience but not what is needed to take the team forward.

So he wouldn't be the best option since we putting in midfielders and corner forwards? A actual out and out centre back.

So neither are better than what's there ? O'Neil is playing well out of position he's a corner back not a full back. We have brought back in cos , we are talking about players who can help us survive in div 2. The team has dropped so far down we need radical changes. Keoghan also same age. Should drop him too ? He didn't have a good game v Armagh

I was never his biggest fan but he's better than what's there now, has huge experience and is a great character to have around. Let's face it, some thought we could progress without the likes of a Shane McEntee on the panel but let's face it, we really can't. Still can't believe Jack Flynn off the panel. Going around in circles the last 14 years we are… Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1352 - 16/02/2024 00:27:10 2526290 Link 9 |
Yes, oneill is a better full back then mcgill at the minute. Have you seen club championship at all in last year or 2.

Player of the year last year ? He had a bad game v summerhill no doubt but always played well for Meath. Again I will ask. Would we be stronger with McGill and O'Neill in backline. Yea or no ?

I'll ask you another way. McGill or flood ?

The strongest backline imo that is actually available to us at the moment is one consisting of McGill O'Neil and murphy. Now what way you want to play them is up to you. I'll go one better and say the strongest halfback line available to us (ie not injured) is keoghan Shane mcentee and Coffey. And throw billy hogan in goals. And I personally would feel hell of a lot more secure going to play louth.

We are not talking about Donal Keoghan but considering it seems we are currently drawing names out of a hat on the Wednesday before a game to decide who plays at 6 in the next game it might have been a good idea to keep an experienced specialized 6 on the panel even if it was just to help the lads we are throwing in at the deep end there.

We can argue all day on personal but the elephant in the room, is inadequate coaching goin on. Borderroyal (Meath) - Posts: 496 - 16/02/2024 11:22:12 2526326 Link 7 |
A lot of talk about no.6 but after the last 2 games we've problems all over the field. We're still being exposed at the back and are wide open. Flynn is a massive loss and without Gray in the middle I'd be worried there as well. And in the forwards apart from Costello we still lack footballing IQ. Against decent teams with a clear defensive system, which Louth have worked on and implemented very well, we simply cannot score which is worrying. Our forwards have to react to playing these types of teams as we know they're coming. You can sense frustration with COR after the last game, I think he sees potential here but we're lacking in consistency and desire. We need to show some serious passion and play like it's an All-Ireland final this weekend or we're in serious trouble. NYRoyal (USA) - Posts: 31 - 16/02/2024 11:57:31 2526330 Link 0 |
Must be some Dunboyne loyalty there if you think thats the 6 strongest backs in the county. I'll go with O Neill, McGill, Ryan, Keoghan, Harnan and Coffey UsernameInvalid (Meath) - Posts: 403 - 16/02/2024 12:23:20 2526334 Link 1 |

The squad were given the weekend off last weekend but the senior players organised a training session and ran it themselves. Shows a good desire from the players to do well. royal11 (Meath) - Posts: 102 - 16/02/2024 13:21:37 2526346 Link 2 |
