Couldn't agree more. It's been a disaster. Fair play to wearemeath and chronicle. Otherwise no one would know it was on.

Regional Football Final on Tuesday night? More than likely in Dunganny now, What was the thinking behind this ClashofAsh85 (Meath) - Posts: 20 - 16/11/2023 10:07:32 2513285 Link 0 |
Could anyone shed any light on some of the high performing players so far? What about any current county players, how have they performed? Danny Dixon and Sean Caloe seem to be mentioned frequently along with Brendan McKeown. Any new names. The standard and interest hasn't been what was hoped judging by reports. Are there players this year going to get a chance to represent Meath in 2024 from this competition? winatallcost (Meath) - Posts: 587 - 16/11/2023 13:11:32 2513345 Link 0 |
Daire Rowe seems to be doing what he always does, don't know if he'll be involved with Meath next year. It would be a shame to never see him play championship football for the Royals though!

" Moyna Ferna" as one of their own players called them after last nights game had five players starting from lowly ranked Junior B clubs which is great to see as they wouldnt be looked at otherwise. summerof09 (Meath) - Posts: 324 - 16/11/2023 16:30:45 2513390 Link 0 |
Some players have done well in the competition but there are few who are ready to make an impact at inter county level. Plenty who could make the development panel and could work on strength and conditioning. Some of the players I've seen that would be worth a shot on the Meath Senior panel and who are physically ready (some have played before); Danny Dixon, Eoin Harkin, Darren Brennan, Shane Gibney, Mark Foy, Alan Bowden. royal11 (Meath) - Posts: 102 - 16/11/2023 17:39:53 2513405 Link 0 |
All the naysayers against this competition missed out on 2 very different but equally interesting games last night. He ding dong slugfest, the other an intriguing tactical battle. As for the sneering about the quality, there's 3 decent senior teams in Meath, that is the reality. All 4 of the combined teams in the semi finals, given the same amount of preparation time as everyone else would hold their own in the senior championship. (That will never happen I know) to say there was no buy in or lads don't care is nonsense given the effort, physicality shown and scenes of celebration and deflation after both games does away with that argument. Given these teams are put together late on the quality of some of the football and scoring was good I feel. longroadback (Meath) - Posts: 330 - 16/11/2023 19:56:37 2513414 Link 0 |

I haven't made it to any of the regional games so I'm not basing it on regional performances but I think Eoin Harkin absolutely deserves a recall

If you haven't seen him play in regional, what are you basing this on. His team were in relegation trouble in Championship I think aswell. Not sure he would displace anyone currently involved based on what i had seen of him.

Any time I've seen him for Dunsany plus what I've heard from reports of regional games.

Is it just me or does Boyne Valley region make zero sense? Moynalvey players playing along with Syddan players? a player could be just outside Maynooth playing for Moynalvey and another player in Syddan on Louth border? very odd. Regions really should be a case of players knowing each other very well before hand usually going to same schools and drinking in same towns, as case with Ballivor/Athboy/Boardsmill would all frquent Trim or Athboy for this. Where would Syddan - Moynalvey ever come in contact? Syddan should have been with Tuaisceart dickie10 (UK) - Posts: 767 - 21/11/2023 20:41:30 2514098 Link 2 |
Moynalvey replaced Rathkenny. Its Rathkennys region

Moynalvey were added to Boyne Valley just for 2023 to make up for Rathkenny's players being unavailable during their Leinster run. It'll happen every year that a team seems out of place due to promotion & relegation. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1664 - 22/11/2023 12:25:06 2514160 Link 4 |
The reason for Moynlavey being in this region was became as the relegated senior team they replaced Rathkenny who would have been with Boyne Valley. Otherwise I presume they'd be in Tara. While I agree with the relegated senior team playing instead because it prevents a clash with the intermediate Leinster I do agree that it is silly to put clubs in with regions they aren't geographically part of. While I understand that it's only year 2 and there's a bit of trial and error I do think it's important that clubs belong a region and there's no possibility of playing for another other region. Same with players from senior clubs. That shouldn't be allowed either. I understand it was done with a view of making it an even competition but that's what you do in trial games. If you want it to be a championship that means something you need to treat it like a championship and not move things on the fly to even it out
