2023 Club Hurling Championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Last round of group games.
SHC B
Dunderry V CNG, CNG easily, Dunderry to stay up.
Kilmessan V Longwood, Both teams will be pushing hard here in the hope CNG lose, Kilmessan by 3
BHG V Dunboyne, BNG by 5, Dunboyne will be relegated

SHC A
Killyon V Na Fianna, loser heads south to B, Killyon by the minimum
Kildalkey V Kiltale, winner into semi, loser into qtr, not alot in this i think, could see how either could win it, going for Kiltale by the smallest of margins
Ratoath V Trim, dead rubber, makes no difference to the group, will see players been rested here, Ratoath to qualify with 2 wins and 3 losses, IMO if you lose 3 games you should be out but the system is the system and hence why the championship will only really start in 2 weeks time, the 4 teams who are going through were IMO obvious from the outset,

IHC A
Kells V Rathmolyon, Back game, Tuesday night, Rathmolyon down a couple here, will still win by 8 plus,
Boardsmill V Navan, Navan getting better and will win handy, 5+, Boardsmill to lose out on QTR final place, Navan into semi final.
Drumree V Kells, Drumree by 7 and into QTR final,
Rathmolyon V Kildalkey, will Kildalkey go full on or will they rest the older experienced players, if so Rathmolyon by 2 and into QTR final, full tilt Kildalkey could have Rathmolyon under pressure but makes no difference unless both Drumree and Boardsmill win their last games.

IHC B
Tones V Kilskyre, Kilskyre by healthy margin,
Dunboyne V Kilmessan, Kilmessan probably wont field.
Trim V Don/Ash, Winner will qualify, Don/Ash by 2

Really need to follow the westmeath system. Top team into final, next two semi final.

You would have to drop the number of teams to 8 to follow the Westmeath system, but turkeys don't vote for Christmas, ironically the Westmeath Senior Football Championship is almost identical to our SHC.

While the quality at the top isn't as high, I think we have a slightly wider spread of talent than Westmeath. Their big 3 are so far ahead of everyone else it's nearly 10 years since a 4th team even made the final.

I'd cut our senior to 10 teams. 2 groups of 5 with the top 2 into the semi finals. Then do the same with Intermediate. The 4 relegated from intermediate can then bump the Junior up to 10 teams.

SHC A
Killyon v Na Fianna - neither have shown anything to suggest they should be anywhere but in a decider to see who goes down. Killyon by 3
Kiltale vs Kildalkey - Kiltale have responded very well to the opening round where they could so easily have panicked. Kildalkey fairly easily beaten by Trim the last day so will have a response. Giving it to Kiltale by two,
Trim/Ratoath - as said above, dead rubber. Trim by 4.

SHC B
Dunderry v CNG - Dunderry haven't been putting up big scores against the bigger sides, and can't see them doing much here either - though they should get away with it. CNG by 7
Kilmessan/Longwood - Game of the weekend. I'll take Longwood by one.
BHG V Dunboyne, BNG by 8 to send Dunboyne down to inters.

IHC A
Kells vs Rathmolyon - that Kells win over Boardsmill was a massive shock and was aided by the weather. It's looking fairly calmer today. Rathmolyon by a dozen
Boardsmill v NOM -NOM looked shaky through the first three games but finally clicked against Rathmolyon. Pressure is still on them though. Boardsmill to give them a rattle but lose by 2.
Drumree vs Kells - could be anything between 7 and 19 points win for Drumree, Kells doomed.
Rathmolyon V Kildalkey - You'd have to imagine Kildalkey will rest a few, but will Rathmolyon be tired from two games in a week? Kildalkey by 3

IHC B
Tones V Kilskyre/Moylagh - similar question as Kildalkey above - K/M through anyway so do they rest the Shines/McGrath/Geraghty? Even their B team would probably get by Tones, who are down two lads with suspensions.
Dunboyne V Kilmessan - if Dunboyne are relegated from SHC on Saturday evening, they won't bother showing up on Sunday as the IHC lads will be relegated regardless, so Kilmessan by default.
Trim V Don/Ash - Don/Ash finally put up a big score against Dunboyne. Will need to do similar and keep tight on the Trim lads to get through. D/A by three

SHC A 2/3. Kiltale flattering to deceive.
SHC B - 0/3. Dunboyne the big surprise and their margin of victory coupled with heavy defeat for Longwood has The Wood heading down.

QFs: Kiltale vs Dunderry, Ratoath vs CNG, both mouthwatering on paper

IHC A- 2/3, Rathmolyon getting the win to secure a QF spot under all the pressure
IHC B - 1/3. Tones gave Kilskyre a test, which should stand K/M well. Don/Ash getting a big score up for second game running

QFS: Rathmolyon vs Don/Ash, Kisklyre/Moylagh vs Drumree - again, two potential corkers, particularly Rathmolyon/DonAsh

In the Senior B. Would there be any implications of the GAA ruling on 3 tied teams? If you only take the score difference of Longwood, Dunderry and Dunboyne...would it change the relegation???

Yes if the games between Longwood, Dunboyne and Dunderry were looked at in isolation, Longwood would be safe and Dunboyne would go down on score difference

QTR Finals
Senior
Kiltale V Kilmessan, the red cards from last weekend could be the difference here, Kiltale didn't get going against an average Kildalkey team, Kilmessan have a free shot but will they have enough or can Kiltale recover, will they appeal their red cards, probably worth a shot a this stage, any thoughts on the red cards, was to far away to tell, with the sanctions in place i'm going Kilmessan by 2.

Ratoath V BHG,
One way traffic, Ratoath by 10, BHG be happy to have made QTR Final.

Intermediate
Rathmolyon V Don/Ash, big game here, rath might be coming at just right time, not sure what kildalkey had out last weekend but they still beat the top team to date in the group, Don/Ash wont be easy and could upset the Fav here, Don/ash by 1

Drumree V Kilskyre, think Kilskyre will win this but only just,

It doesn't say much for the 4 teams Kildalkey beat, if they are just 'average'.

Are the semi final pairings pre determined or is there a draw after the quarters?

Senior Hurling Quarter Finals

Kiltale vs Kilmessan
As mentioned already, the red cards from last weekend could be the difference here. Kiltale have been very hit and miss this year. Some big wins, but some bad losses to Trim and Kildalkey. Kilmessan scrapping through like last year based on results going there way, although they showed some glimpses of the skills they have against Longwood. But Kiltale should have too much up front here. Kiltale by 6

Ratoath vs Blackhall Gaels
I think this will be closer then many predict. Ratoath have some great hurlers in there ranks and an excellent freetaker. Blackhall Gaels deserved to win the Senior B and will be no push overs. But Ratoath should have eniugh to get over the line. Ratoath by 4

Intermediate Hurling Quarter Finals

Rathmolyon vs Donaghamore/Ashbourne
Donaghamore/Ashbourne put up some big scores the last 2 rounds, but against poor second teams. Rathmoylan not firing on all cylindars like I would have expected them to do, but I fully expect them to show there class here. Rathmoylan by 8

Drumree vs Kilskyre/Moylagh
A very hard one to call. When on song, Kilskyre/Moylagh are a great team and rare for an IHCB team to have a few county players. The usual with Drumree, great in the league and they come unstuck come Championship time. I have said before that Kilskyre/Moylagh are dark horses for the IHC and if they overcome this tough assignment, who knows. Kilskyre/Moylagh by 3
