I can't imagine he has any ego. Every time I'm talking to him he is very polite and respectful, if anything he is shy. The biggest ego I ever met was o'Rourke

Only spoke to him when kids getting jerseys signed. Always very polite and respectful always happy to sign and get photos taken. Apart from that I know nothing about him. But he seemed like a very polite unassuming lad, and has you said a bit shy.

Can only go on rumour, apparently got a knock during week prior to Kildare game, and then told he was dropped from panel and they'll have a look at him next year. How true that is is anyones guess. But that's what is going round. I have no idea what's happening tbh.

"I have no idea what's happening". But yet you put out these statements with no facts... Maestro (Meath) - Posts: 584 - 03/04/2023 14:29:20 2468561 Link 10 |

Royal Dunne Are you not a long term resident of westmeath?. If so do you take your kids to see their county play?. If you don't, you are letting them down, the whole concept is to follow your own county/club, and your kids are from Westmeath. atta (Meath) - Posts: 704 - 03/04/2023 15:42:03 2468587 Link 9 |
It sounds like there are a lot of rumours circulating without foundation and I for one have fallen for that! Probably best at this stage to wait until some announcement is made! You would expect that an announcement would be made sooner rather than later - otherwise it will probably create disquiet amongst the squad! Did you not read the first part of the post ?? I mean it is self explanatory. My 5yo could understand it.

They have absolutely no interest in Westmeath. I have enough a hard time keeping them supporting Meath when their mothers family are diehard dubs. I mean every league game all the time, Parnell pass holders . I think I have done very well since the success of Dublin. Plus they have close ties to my home club with their cousins playing for them etc. so no they have 0 interest in Westmeath, plus my home will always be Meath and where they will live when they want their own place

Probably. That's why anything I've said I have included rumour in it. As to be honest no one really knows what's going on at this stage.

We have a lot of Dubs with the Same approach in this county.

We live in a free country. They can support whoever they want. One man in Mullingar I know is a mad kerry fan, goes to matches all the time. Not from Kerry and neither is his parents. He's in his 60s and said he fell in love with them in the 1970s. And has followed them ever since. He was at last years all ire and drove to Killarney I think to meet them the following day. It's about passion more so than anything else.

No one took a stab here… hmmmm Okay I'll bite…. I'll assume the U20's don't progress 1 Harry Hogan 2 Adam O'Neill 3 Liam Kelly (if he's good enough start him) 4 Cathal Hickey 5 Donal Keoghan 6 Ross Ryan 7 Padraic Harnan 8 Jack Flynn 9 Ronan Jones 10 Jason Scully 11 Matthew Costello 12 Daithi McGowan 13 Shane Walsh 14 Eoghan Frayne 15 Cillian o'sullivan 16 Billy Hogan/ Sean Brennan 17 michael flood 18 Harry O'Higgins 19 jack o'connor 20 shane Crosby 21 Connor Gray 22 Thomas O'Reilly 23 Aaron Lynch 24 Donal Lenihan 25 Diarmuid Moriarty 26 John O'Regan/ Darragh Campion (there'll be a Skryne player in the squad) Left out the 4 lads were told are gone Harkin, Morris, Conlon and Clarke, Dan O'Neill I think also back with Tones I think some one here said (apologies if untrue) Keith Curtis misses out brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 06/04/2023 13:01:46 2469256 Link 2 |
Liam Kelly doesn't even start for his club Brian. No doubt he has great potential and is going to be a top player and full back but if at the moment he's not even the best full back in his club suggesting him to start full back for the meath senior team in the Leinster championship is absolute madness

Black spot I fully concur with you on that. And you're right in your assessment however I think this might be the plan they have …. Would I prefer McGill in there, of course, but I'm trying to think like they do if that makes sense?? Flood isn't the solution (getting caught inside the opposing 45multiple times is unforgivable) and they've not tried Harry o Higgins at full back so I'm not going to be surprised if they go with Kelly

Unfortunately the best fullback in county is sitting at home twiddling his thumbs. Hopefully some progress has been made in resolving this and we actually have the best players playing for Meath. We in too dire situation not to have them , everyone including management must know this by now. According to reports Colm and the players had a frank and open discussion over the last week and we must be all hopeful this has ironed out some of the problems which we have faced from both players and sideline. We live in hope and Sundays game in munster could have a huge impact on us. I believe ulster will not have a non top 2 division in final. But clare are a different animal, as Colm has said it is still in their own hands but I would like the safety net of Cork winning beforehand. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 06/04/2023 14:06:55 2469278 Link 1 |
Well the best full back in his club apparently isn't fit enough/doesn't have a good enough attitude/wouldn't buy into O Rourkes standards or whatever rubbish excuse for him being dropped was given. Liam Kelly most likely will start this year, alongside Ben Wyer and McGill I would imagine, but at the minute I would have Wyer in ahead of Kelly in the Meath senior team and would have no issues in starting him ahead of Flood, O Neill or Hickey in that team in the full back line

Perhaps you are right and maybe it could turn out to be a masterstroke but it is a massive gamble to throw in a kid who will have about 2 weeks senior inter county training under his belt and who still isn't nailing down a starting spot for his club. I just hope if they do start it doesn't back fire particularly for the lad himself. Blackspot09 (Meath) - Posts: 1003 - 06/04/2023 14:37:08 2469285 Link 2 |
We'll see what happens is right sir, and you'd hope they'd not throw him in and ruin him for the future. Tbf to Kelly he's always risen to the challenge but as you say not starting for your club to starting championship at inter county is a huge jump. The fact they've only had flood playing there all season and he's not up to the mark worries me and why I suggested Kelly. Who knows…
