Change Of Management?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Chronicle and Indo run stories that Executive Committee of Meath Co Board last night voted to recommend to their delegates not to ratify Andy McEntee for a sixth year in charge. Very close vote 8 against 7 for. Now even with the support of clubs, Andys position may no longer be tenable after the withdrawal of support from the executive. Whatever the outcome it will have big impact on Meath football in coming years.

I'm surprised at that. I know our strong 2nd half vs. Dublin seems a bit less impressive after seeing Dublin subsequently perform vs. Kildare and Mayo but I'd have thought one more year would be a relatively uncontroversial choice.

On the other hand there didn't seem to be much vocal support for him from the county board when he was infuriated by the Kildare game or in the Flynn U20 management fiasco, so maybe it's been a while coming.

Why would he stay now that his own executive don't want him.
I hope they have discussed an alternative before they shot themselves in the foot.

5 Years - Brought a bit of stability to the team, sorted us out and organised the whole setup a bit better however he is back where he started in my opinion, not his fault, as I keep saying we are simply not good enough to compete with the bigger teams.

We are a borderline top 10 team and that's okay. Will not slate any man who puts on the jersey for Meath.

Best of luck to Andy Mac if he is going.

Very poor league campaign, actually it was dismal display against kildare, coupled with the problems not releasing U20 players, it not a steadily platform to proceed in the future. Great display against Dublin, but ultimately the league promotion was a very realistic, but it never materialized. After 5 years in charge it was'nt all and all good enough.

missing the point.,,,,im not arguing whether he should stay or go....im arguing that if they wanted him gone they have had nearly 4 months to do it...

To be honest I am embarrassed to be from Meath after this episode. The way the county board have treated Andy in this matter is nothing short of a disgrace. To have a man that has put so much time and effort into Meath football, be preparing for next season for the last 3 months and then to find out this magical County Committee has voted that they don't think he is the man to lead us in October after getting knocked out in July. The mind boggles.

I hope Andy puts himself forward for the clubs to vote as I believe most would have sense and see that he deserves another year. I can only imagine what alternative this committee have in mind. I can probably see why Andy won't go for the job but I believe he has the backing of the majority of true Meath football people.

If we do get a manager when will he be appointed? November at the very earliest I think, possibly even December when club championships will be over and most other county teams having finalised O'Byrne Cup squads and training.

Here here. Absolutely outrageous and disgraceful decision by the county board. Why leave this to October when the management and players have been preparing behind the scenes for the past three months for next year. Do these 'county board officials' think Andy and the lads have been sitting around drinking pints and not talking to each other for the past three months. They are already back in the gym getting ready.

I can see Andy not sticking around now after he has been humiliated like this. I know most of not all genuine knowledgeable GAA people in this county know Andy is the best man for the job and has brought this team on hugely since 2017 and there are more and more young players coming through. Why ruin this, when they have clearly no alternative in mind and their isn't one single credible alternative that I have seen mentioned once.

I'm not going to lie this move surprises me. Look I've said enough that I'm not sure if Andy can progress us any further than he has and should be thanked for stabilising the senior team but its time to move on. Unfortunately i can't suggest a better candidate internally within the county and was shot down for suggesting some former Dublin players (cos we don't need them was the view of some) who have been doing very well with Dublin at senior and underage and clubs in Dublin. That doesn't mean that because there's no one better Andy should be maintained. His faults are many and well established and don't need repeating.

I think once more the county board have embarrased themselves. They did nothing when Flynn stepped away and appeared to back Andy. Short term wins were sacrificed for a potential all ireland at U20 level. Now they've pulled back on whatever support they gave McEntee at that time.

Look end of the day I thank Andy McEntee for what he has done, there's no doubt he has given his all and maybe lacked a small bit of luck along the way. If there's a reversal of fortune and he's still here for 22 I'll back him and the team regardless, at the end of the day i support our boys and girls in green no matter what.

What a crazy decision made by people who are supposed to have Meath football at heart.

First week in Oct and make this decision and if Andy decided to tough it out another week or 10 days before a county board meeting can be held.
If clubs back management and let Andy off then nominations must go to clubs a personal interviewed and another few board room meetings to ratify a new man.

It could easily be December

The timing of this is horrendous, whether you support Andy or not if he is ousted now we are looking at well into November or December before a new man is in charge, there have been plenty of weeks and months since our defeat to Dublin when this issue could have been handled but no we leave it until October as we approach the last eight of the club championships, we should have had this sorted within a month of exiting the championship, just as we get good positive news on the underage front and get over celebrating the successes of the minors and ladies we have this, seems we just can't help ourselves.

Why does this surprise people?
Question have to be asked.
1 Why did the CC leave it till October to say they weren't happy with Andy.
They seem to back him against Bernard Flynn.
2 Have they got someone else lined up and if not how long will the process take to replace him ( if he steps down).
3 Does Donal Curtis and Finian Murtagh stepping away have anything to do with it.
I won't hold my breath waiting for the answer.
Hopefully Andy stays and he sees out his last year.

Till the succession plan kicks in we needed a safe pair of hands and some continuity to keep the ship steady, even a year or 2...... instead we are getting a circus.
