I don't care anymore, our goose is well and truly cooked at this stage and into the future as the only glimmer of hope on the horizon, our underage setup, has been snatched away from us in an apparently very unseemly manner. There is nothing more sad than loss of hope. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 1080 - 20/06/2021 11:57:14 2352131 Link 4 |
I have to agree it's difficult to understand how a compromise couldn't be found. A statement is needed to steady the ship. Where is the plan?

Was Andy asked about the funding issue after we beat Longford?? He's hardly gonna start talking about that if he wasn't asked about it. Also the fortress Aughrim myth has been well and truly debunked over the last 4 of 5 years. The game being played in Aughrim would have been as much of advantage to Wicklow as any team playing at home. No more or no less. This argument has been played out for years especially when it comes to Dublin that if you bring them out of croke Park and they won't be as formidable and yet every time they have played outside of Croker in championship they have gotten the job done. Yes they should be made play away from HQ more but it really wouldn't make any difference. Likewise if mayo had travelled to Leitrim. It still would have been absolutely mauling for Leitrim. that's not my point BS My first point is that the Lower tiered Counties should be given every advantage that can possibly be given to them to help them through that glass ceiling And without a doubt, in what seemed like a very tight competitive u20 fixture...i think home advantage could have played its part in that game The next questions is...what could that one result doe for a generation Of Wicklow Footballers & Wicklow Football in general...can you imagine the excitement in the county if the u20s had prevailed The next point is...without a doubt Mayo , would still have beaten Leitrim....but surely the gap could have been narrowed, and in doing so, rather than totally embarrass The Leitrim Squad , perhaps they could have retained some degree of Respect & pride from the game You are correct, ist only an opinion, as we wont know, but my final point is , for all the higher thought processes, why cant we at least start with giving home advantage to the weaker counties ….and the Gap in gate receipts it costs to the stronger counties can be centrally funded Thelongwoodslasher (Meath) - Posts: 401 - 13/07/2021 11:41:17 2359324 Link 0 |
Progress upto Minor over the last few years has been promising but conveyor belt broken after that. Poor player retention (Nash and McBride). Lack of a player progression path, or if there is one its broken, late management appointments with no continuity from minor and internal fighting. To be fair we can point the finger at the CB for a lot but don't think we can blame them for losing Nash and Mcbride. The lure of being a paid professional athlete will always be too good for some lads to turn down.
