Replying To Irish_downunder:  "Bad day at the office. To have the two lads sent off is hard to come back from. Douglas needs to realise he is going to be marked man by all the refs as he has had a few reds at county level.

things need to be turned around sharpish as winning is a habit."
What happened for Douglas to get sent off this time?

2 yellows - think second one was probably a yellow - first one was harsh.... same with Luke - both were not yellows, maybe 1 was, but not both... second half was a non-event - can't take anything from it...

Seems to be a serious discipline problem with Trim hurlers. Too many double yellow/red for Dougie over last 2 or 3 years, they can't always be "harsh yellows" everytime. Losing a player at intercounty really hurts a team especially like Meath hurlers who are just trying to compete with these teams and not get hammered.

Fair comment on the amount of cards but by all accounts one of his and morans were harsh.

Yeah I seen something about cards being given out like confetti on twitter after the game.

I see Sunday's match is now down for PT. It's the logical choice considering the footballers are home the same day, but does anyone know if it was changed from Trim, or was it always supposed to be in Navan? Up until this week it was down for Trim in any fixtures I saw.

Believe it was always Navan, but given the rains thats forecast could easily see it being moved to Trim

No relegation from the Joe McDonagh this year... That's a relief...

Charlie Ennis; Stephen Morris, Shane Brennan, Sean Geraghty; Keith Keoghan, Shane Whitty, Ger Dwane; Alan Douglas, Patrick Potterton; Jack Regan, Padraic O'Hanrahan, James Toher; Michael Burke, Damien Healy, Eamon O Donnchadha.

Interesting to see toher at hf.
Hopefully Whitty plays this week.
Who is Ger Dwane at half back?

Toher maybe a third midfielder? Although he finished the Antrim game in the half forward line. Ger Dwane is Trim full back.

A relief !! Maybe...I hope it doesn't bring a laidback mentality to the team. Like in the League they targeted survival I.e. by beating Wicklow and or Mayo. Just scraped through in both games. The only thing to take from the League was the fight back against Offaly and damage limitation v Kerry. Also probably got game time into a lot of the squad. We still badly need Darragh Kelly and Joey Keena (miles or no miles), they add intent and strength.

Think we can't be reliant on Keena, his best days are behind him.
Although--we are still lacking a bit of strength, think particularly in the inside line.
Goals seem to be a problem too, very leaky at the back.

Please give up on this Joey Keena debate, he owes Meath nothing and is happily retired. Seen him with club last week and legs are gone, I feel this is a team in transition but I also feel there are lots of lads on the panel that aren't up to standard required for JMcD!
A good year in JMcD would be losing every game by less than 7, right or wrong?

Where has Daragh Kelly disappeared to? He would tighten things up at the back, and in the Christy Ring Final last year Joey Keena came on late in the game, then grabbed a long high clearance from Daragh, laid the ball on in a flash for the goal that embellished the day. Maybe the extra year is too much but we need an enforcer up front. Remember it was Joey clinched the 2016 CR win as he dispossessed the Antrim centre half and was fouled for the winning point by Steven Clinch. Men on board when needed. Having got that rant over I hope Daragh Kelly comes into the reckoning and Adam Gannon returning is also a plus.

Keena was a great player in his prime, but if your best evidence is a game from 4 years ago and him coming on as a sub in a game we had already sewn up last year, it's a pretty weak argument to bring him back.

Bit harsh to judge a lad on a 1st round league game in feb when he only has a months training done.
He has had alot of injuries recently and owes nobody anything.
If hes fully fit hes still much better than alot on that panel at present.
if micky burke is getting a start then joey would have no problems getting on

The team is in transition period i would agree , they need a couple more young lads to come through , the makings of a good team is there , they are not a million miles away.

Need to get through this years joe mcdonagh without getting hammered much and get proper management team lined up for next year , what is there at present is not up to this level

Nothing wrong with the management team we have at the moment. It would be easy to put together a team of players from last year's panel but they've given a lot of young players from all over the county a chance to put their hand up.
We should be looking forward, not back.
