Getting so excited for this now. Appears the team has great togetherness. Also the squad just appears stronger this year. From last year we have lost Biggie, Mickey Burke, Flanagan and then squad players like Marcus Brennan, Sean Curran and the McGoverns. But compared to last year have a full year of Shane Walsh, Kennelly, Eamon Wallace, Donal Lenihan, Brían Conlon, maybe Jack O'Connor if he keeps progressing. Just seems a more complete squad this year which we need for Div 1. Exciting times if injuries stay away (which for the start of the league it seems like they haven't)

Rumour has it Mickey Newman is due for a sustained spell on the sidelines with a hib injury...big loss to go along with the likes of Harnan, Lavin and Devine!

Latest news on the grapevine is McShane is out of the Tyrone team for at least 2 years to pursue a 2 year deal with the Brisbane Lions in Australia. I haven't found any word from him but I seen the article on a reputable site. If this is true, it is unprecedented in Gaelic football; a top, top player jumping ship to play Australian football, motivated purely by the possibility of fortune. I wish him all the best but it shows the (very) dark side of our current game and it has to be addressed if the GAA is serious about being a real sport. In my opinion, this is perhaps a red letter day, IF its true.

Notwithstanding, a humungous, unparalleled blow to Tyrone. I hate to be so blunt but this rules them out of All-Ireland contention, maybe even top 4 contention. He's worth 4/5 points in every game at least. Runs the show up front. Primary fielder in the attack, and holds up the defence to create space for Tyrone's other shooters. He takes the free kicks. All of these factors against solid teams nonetheless. Meath must now be licking their lips, as should the rest of division one. A few bad early results could spell disaster for Tyrone. I predict they'll consolidate themselves and stay strong and likely have another good season but they'll be under pressure early on no doubt.

Ankle injury. He was in pain and on the ground when it happened but then tried to play on for 30 seconds- a minute. Then taken off. Hopefully he just twisted it and it isn't too serious. Also seen Campion on crutches so that isn't good

When you add in Donnelly is gone for the league too and one or two others have left the panel, I'm not so sure they will have a good season. Donnelly and mcshane were the key men

Good to see Kennelly back too. All in all we seem ready for the challenge ahead. Have waited long enough for top flight football. Bring on Tyrone.
Hon the royal.

Good score put up and great to see Jones panting well
It's a bad sign to see the Wallace's back in the panel, no offence to them but they've been tried and tested already and IMO are not county standard. The big teams do not fear their style of play.
Colgon in again, surely we have a better keeper in the county. Cruel as it is, has Andy not learned nothing from last year.

Colgon didn't play today. Thought dominic yorke did really well in goals. Would like to see him start against Tyrone.

Both Joey and eamonn are different players to 2 years ago, eamonn not so much a scorer any more but an excellant link man running from deep, and Joey a far superior version of James conlon imo

Fantastic comments.

Joey Wallace was "tried" at a young age and has come on since. Eamonn always played ok at intercounty and his speed and work rate will be good off the bench.

Colgan did not start as listed Dominic yorke did.

Looking forward to the League now, there's no reason why we shouldn't be optimistic of staying up. Dublin and Kerry are a good bit ahead of us but I honestly don't think the rest are miles in front.

We didn't manage a win against Division 1 opposition last year but barring the Dublin disaster there was reason for hope in our games v Donegal, Mayo & Kerry and that's coming from someone who has no time for moral victories.

If we've learned from those games and progressed from having to set the bar higher then we definitely can stay in Division 1. McEntee will put the work in and will expect nothing short of 100% effort from all his players, so if we fall short, it won't be down to lack of preparation or effort.

Best of luck to our lads anyway in the year ahead, they have a huge opportunity now, I sincerely hope they can take it.
