Was at the Summerhill v Simonstown today. Tough game with Simonstown winning. Simonstown defense very good with the full back and especially centre back prominent. Good win for the Gaels especially after their defeat to Don/Ashbourne during the week. Tight division now with Simonsown on 6pts with all games played and Summerhill and Don/Ash on 4 pts each with a game left. Don/Ash got a walkover today. See there was a walkover in the other group too! I don't understand how a team in division 1 has to give a walkover

Am I right in saying the St. Ultan's/Cortown Gaels/Round Towers is 4 clubs in one team? How can they not assemble 15 players between the 4 of them to field? They've no adult football to play, it's during the school/college year so holidays aren't an issue, I doubt any 15 to 17 year olds have unavoidable work commitments... Unacceptable that walkovers are given particularly in Div 1 competition. The other walkover was given by a combination team of 4 clubs. They need to seriously review allowing these set ups be allowed into Div 1 in future at the expense of clubs that are there for all ages up and not just brought together to try and win a minor showforit (Meath) - Posts: 156 - 29/09/2019 11:02:21 2239981 Link 1 |

The main down side with minor been at u17 is once lads are finished playing minor a lot of them just aren't ready for adults football so they end up falling away.most lads aren't ready for adult footballer until they are at least 18 or 19 in my opinion bobjaffacake (Meath) - Posts: 1400 - 30/09/2019 11:10:37 2240246 Link 0 |

Yes totally agree especially in the lower divisions of minor ( under 17 ) . I think few will play adult with the gap now between minor and adult too big for these players to bridge the gap physically . Serious strength and conditioning programmes need installed in clubs and adhered to give the few young players willing to commit a chance . Any club that does not do this will never get close to winning a championship and management teams need to monitor this

The amount of walkovers in the Minor Championship is a big worry... even in div 1, how can this happen? are teams being incorrectly graded? are clubs just throwing their hat at it if they lose a game? it is really disappointing to see longroadback (Meath) - Posts: 331 - 30/09/2019 14:04:12 2240312 Link 0 |

Semi final night tonight in Dunganny, could be 2 crackers looking a the groups, Cilles and Summerhill probably most likely to prevail but you never know at underage level. Some fine players on all 4 teams. Bell, O'Donoghue, Godfrey from the Cilles, Freyne and McDonnell for Summerhill. Yes,plenty of minor championship to look forward to this week between cup and shields. Two Div 1 cup semis tonight, Summerhill v skryne and Cillies v simonstown . I fancy a Summerhill v Simonstown final from this with Summerhill to win it out . Ratoath v Seneschalstown div 1 shield semi final also on tonight in which Ratoath will prevail , in the other div 1 semi in shield Moynalty/Carnaross take on Walterstown and should have too much for them tonight. But Ratoath will possibly win div shield this year. Then tomorrow night sees a Div 4 shield final in which Dunboyne 2nd string take on na fianna . Dunboyne should win this with ease as their 1st team are playing div 2 final v Dunshauglim on bank holiday Monday and they will be looking for the double.

When you read the fantastic Match Report from the Division 4 final on Hogan Stand, one realizes what it meant to the people of the Parish of Ballinlough winning the title, it makes one feel proud to be proud of an organization (GAA) that brings communities working together and celebrating the joys of their endeavors together. Congratulations Ballinlough nobody gave ye a chance against St. Colmcille's when they arrived with their winning Division 1 team from the day before with cup in hand expecting to get the photo at the end with both teams with both Cups.
