New Additions For Meath Panel 2020...

Replying To BigJoe14:  "I'm just baffled at the complete lack of Kells players on the squad. They are the most consistent team in the county and have consistently been beaten at the quarter final/semi final for the past few years and their record in the league and feis cup is not rivaled by anyone. If you are to listen to their cheerleaders talk about kells players it's just a wonder why six or seven kells players aren't on the starting 15 never mind the squad."
Very tue

Name the 6 or 7 that should be in the starting team? come on, that is nonsense. they fall every year in the championship when push comes to shove. They have a lot of very good players but very few exceptional ones. Out from Beano and Mattimoe, Mattimoe walked away from the panel if I'm not mistaken. There is no bias against any club, theres fellas from Meath Hill and Oldcastle on the panel, you cant get any further North than that. While I do scratch my head at the goalkeeping situation, 4 years in and still no proper keeper is crazy. I hate the talk of bias to clubs.

So come on, who are the 6-7 lads from Kells who should be involved.

I'm from the town (club allegiances aren't Gaeil Colmcille though) and I would find it hard to say for definite any of the Kells players should be on the panel. Mattimoe has been tried and failed. Beano is in his mid 30's and not a realistic option for Inter county football. The Reilly brothers aren't better than what is already there. The Fergusons were given a chance but again they're not to standard.

Kells are a collection of great club footballers but that's it. Once a team is at full strength (i.e. Ratoath) they can't beat them and that's why they always fall at the QF and SF stages.

The last great Kells team that won a Keegan cup in 1991 had multiple all Ireland winners in their midst.
Kevin Jordan - 1 * Minor & U-21all ireland
Terry Ferguson - 2 * Senior all irelands
Barry Ferguson - 1 * Senior all ireland
Kevin Cahill - 1 * senior all ireland in 1996

Conor Ferguson and Paul Carr we're always on the cusp on the Meath Squad.

Complete and utter nonsense you can't say Mattimoe and Oisin reilly aren't good enough to be on the panel they are easily kells players capable of making meath better

There's your opinion it doesn't bother me just means we will win the league and feis so it's a positive but there are 100% 4 at least that could make a difference

You won't win league this year with new proposals to allow county players play some games
And if that's the ambition of Kelly's to win feis cup and league that's fine
Other clubs are aiming to win Keegan
And jells have shown over and over that it is a step too far even with all these great players that should be on the meath team

Exactly ye will win the league and the feis cup while the teams that aren't 1-15 of headbangers will compete for the championship.

I will say that current team lacks a hard edge and a bit of wildness that north Meath lads could bring to the team.

One of my disappointments with McEntee is that unlike Boylan, he's never picked a player who wasn't an obvious pick or a player already fairly known from underage. One of the beauties of Boylan was that he moulded a team from players who weren't necessarily well known or even standing out at club level... but when they put on a Meath jersey they excelled and they fitted perfectly into what he was trying to do. That's a rare talent.

Daragh Smyth, David Larkin, Davey Dalton, Stephen Shepherd, Oisin Reilly, Dempsey from Dunderry to name a few would be what I would call Boylan players currently playing in the county. Lads with an edge but who can play football (not Ben Brennan though RoyalDunne!) He'd have Dardis in his forward line I'd say too and on the frees. He liked cocky forwards.

Complete agree with the Dardis point should definitely be playing in that full foward line I also think both Ryan brothers should start

Agree with you on the Ryan brothers. They are the kind of lads who are ego free and will do anything for the team.

Stephen Sheppard. My god this sums up how much some people don't have a single clue when it comes to recommending players for the senior team.
